Ill say this...Tito was about the same size as Jones in height and even had an inch over him in arm length (a surprise to me) and looked like he was filled in for 170lbs. he also looked actually much better, especially the first two rounds, than he did against Bernard and Winky. much more active.
also keep in mind before Tito's losses, he was regarded extremely highly. I mean...Bernard and Winky both got thrown to the top of the p4p lists with wins over Tito. I certainly dont think Roy should be thrown to the top of p4p lists with this win, not even close...but its something to think about.
I thought his performance was impressive considering what hes been through+his age.
I'll give Roy a little credit. I thought he should have let his hands go and Tito would have went down. But that could just be wishfull thinking on my part.
Now that Roy has won, he should have some fans jumping back on his bandwagon after they hated him last week.
He won........It was a good fight........Whats the point of be interested in boxing at all, if you simply cant say, what a good fight.
it was a good fight, but not a great fight by any stretch
i just dont think it adds to his legacy and i dont think it deservers any more credit or earns him any more respect than his last two wins did
Well lets see him handle JC then I know for a fact that Roy can outbox that punk
roy will price himself out of a matchup with calzaghe so fast nobody will ever even hear a rumor of it happening.
Just to watch one of the greatest athletes to bless this earth again on hbo ppv was enough for me. If you dont like it, dont watch, dont comment, just leave it alone.
sorry i dont like the fact that he is trying to land a big money career ending loss by fighting a mismatch disguised as a fair fight
its not really my opinion as much as it is a fact
not many guys who havent won a meaningful fight in over 4 years can con their way onto HBO PPV, i applaud his skills as a businessman
the physical size difference alone is reason enough to discount the victory.
jones is a good 25 pounds bigger than tito any way you cut it.
how much credit would kelly pavlik get for beating ricky hatton at a 155 pound catchweight?
how much credit would floyd mayweather get for beating juan manuel marquez at a 144 pound catchweight?
how much credit would david haye get for beating joe calzaghe at a 193 pound catchweight?
how much credit would mikkel kessler get for beating miguel cotto at a 162 pound catchweight?
ill give him props for fleecing america and having so many alleged boxing fans happily coming along for the ride. jones has always been a shrewd matchmaker and this was one of his greatest matchmaking accomplishments.
.
i cant believe "fans" are actually posting on here in a positive light about how jones "doesent like to knock his opponents out" thats downright idiotic
ill tell you one thing, glen johnson, chad dawson, joe calzaghe, bernard hopkins, mikkel kessler, kelly pavlik and lucian bute would all have stopped tito in one sided affairs.... so why exactly does jones deserve more than a tiny bit of credit for his victory
I give him some credit. For a 39 year old man to throw crisp triple left hooks, get totally worked to his body, show no fatigue, and put on a show all at the same time. He can get some credit.
I chose the second option. I think Roy could have stopped Tito if he let his hands go(maybe stamina issues or somethin). Tito did some nice body work but didn't do enough in the later rounds. Tito aint completely washed up but he can't fight top level fighters anymore.
TBH, I was a little disappointed with saturday. Probably got carried away with all the hype and wished for a classic. His showboating really put me off him though, and seemed disrespectful to Tito.
It also didn't help that I decided to (finally) watch Gatti v Ward , how could any bout follow that!
I was quite impressed with the undercard though. Golota v Mollo was a great slugfest.
Tito looked better than I thought, but he was definitely not at his right weight and being off that long didn't help him. Roy Jones hand speed is still good and even though he's reflexes are slower I thought he deserves some credit not a lot. He did what he probably should have done against a opponent that was slower, not as big, and inactive.
I give Tito more credit than Roy......Roy did OK. He should have been able to stop Tito period.Hops did it at around the same age as Roy is now and at 160.......where he dominated for years like Roy did at 175.
I bet you also lost respect for Roy when he went up to heavyweight and beat Ruiz huh?
Me? My bad, your talking Wlad's own...i just saw your next post. damn.lol
"They say I dont fight nobody? I just make em look like nobody!" Yall musta forgot!
In many cases that was true. How about Reggie Johnson? He was no bum. He was a good fighter. Even dropped Toney in the early 90's. But Roy completley destroyed him, made him look like a bum.
