Lol Cotto? Sure Pal!!! Well Theirs Larios The Winner Of The Chi Vs Soto, Jesus Chavez Offcourse Marquez But Come On Now! Cotto??? He Would Toss His Little Ass Up Real Quick!
If Cotto will be fighting PAc at 130, it's no issue PAC will kill him. Cotto is just too slow and too sloppy.
There are still fights for PAC after Morales and Barrera. The JMM fight is still undecided, which PAC also wants to settle. But I agree that if and when PAC destroys the 3 Mexicans, there isnt anymore competition left. He will he hailed as an all-time great. And he will probably retire, he said he'll retire by age 30.
Thats The Most Ridiculous Thing I Heard All Week Cotto Come Down To 130 Ur Playing Right? I Could Tell Your Just A Paquiao Fan And Not A Boxing Fan Because Everybody Knows That Cotto Is Having A Hard Time Making 140. ****!!! I'm Waiting For Him To Move Up To 47 So My Boy Margarito Could Toss Him Up!!! And Please, Please Dont Talk About Paquiao Vs Margarito. Pac Man's Going To Destroy Marquez Just Like He Did After The 1st Round Huh? Sure He Is!
lol! I know that, I;m just joking. Can't you even know the difference. We all know Cotto is overweight and is barely able to make weight in the last fight. hell! The guy even admitted he's overweight. lol!
Well, the point is, if and when PAC destroys the 3, there isn't much competition left for his caliber and he can retire as an all time great who demolished every opponent who's foolish enough to face him.
I was kidding about Cotto coz I'm poking a little fun at the thread about Pac taking Cotto and how some people took that so seriously! It was funny, to say the least.
Who would've imagined?
Better boxer than Porter, but not better than Thurman. I think Thurman is the most well rounded of them all (ignore my signature and avatar).
I still think he'll be great and they will all probably reach similar levels. He looked very sharp tonight after the first three rounds - he really showed his ring IQ.
The main criticism should be that he "retired" after moving into a loaded welter division with Undefeated Cotto. Margarito who was a beast. Williams who nobody wanted to fight because of his unreal size, reach and workrate. Manny of course coming off battering Oscar and Cotto..mosely was much fresher of course then as well. Lots of mega fights he could have made but instead he disappeared for almost 2 years. Then came back and fought a 130 lb fighter if I recall correctly.
I think Williams and Manny would have given him all he could handle back then.
And then he returned to fight Marquez who was cheated on the scales and blown up, old(er) Mosley, no-heart Ortiz, Pacquiao-leftovers Cotto, B-fighter Guerrero, inexperienced no-gas Canelo, and (what everyone thought was hopeless) Maidana.
Even though revisionist history says things like "Canelo was supposed to beat him because of size!", the polls on Boxingscene still had Mayweather as a heavy favorite. Everyone knows that Mayweather has been the heavy favorite in all of his fights since he's returned from his retirement. Pacquiao has a barren Top Rank roster, but still has managed to fight Marquez (his toughest opponent) twice in that time.
Mayweather just needs to go ahead and decision Pacquiao already instead of being a diva. Everyone knows his style would win that fight easily at this point.
I thought Provodnikov and Matthysse both used Everlast MX gloves also, same that Maidana wants to use. It's a popular glove among punchers. I'm pretty sure everyone in Roach's stable usually uses MX or Cleto Reyes.
Posters are saying I have an ulterior motive. I don't. I'm not promoting the fight.
It will 99% end up being a **** fight. Algeiri will run and Pacquiao will probably struggle to find him. It doesn't have any credibility to it other than a stay-busy fight. That is my honest opinion.
But will I watch it? Hell yeah I will. Do I think Algeiri could be all wrong for Manny? Hell yeah I do.
Canelo's depressing because he has learned nothing from his fights. I don't know whether to blame him or his team, but they have terrible game plans. He doesn't cut off the ring and apply enough pressure on boxer-movers. He'd rather stand there and pose, set his feet, then throw wildly over-committed punches.
He was lucky that:
1) Trout had no power and poorer defense.
2) Lara had better defense, moderate power, but no output.
3) Mayweather.... what am I talking about, he was taken to school.
I really don't care if he's hype or not, but am more impressed if he shows improvement. He hasn't. That's why I'll remain a critic.
I don't have a good feeling about the upcoming Pacquiao-Algeiri fight.
I'll split this into three different categories as to why I think Pacquiao may have shot himself in the foot for taking this fight.
1) Styles
Pacquiao has always had trouble with people moving. When we observe the first Bradley fight and the Shane Mosley fight, despite winning, Pacquiao showed that he had an extremely difficult time cutting off the ring. Especially in the Mosley fight, we see Pacquiao swinging and missing more often than not. His punch output and combination speed, which has been known as his strongest assets, become null when someone pulls away from him.
Notice how Manny can't ever make a full impact with his punches, aside the few ones that had Mosley on his bike.
2) Age
Pacquiao won the Bradley II fight, but the first 4 rounds were the absolute slowest I've ever seen Pacquiao. Pacquiao began wearing down Bradley and shutting him out after Bradley tried to engage and knock Manny out. When Bradley was pulling back and countering Pacquiao on his misses, Manny was in fits. If Algeiri can properly pull this off, because he's a good boxer-mover and Pacquiao is slowing down, it could be extremely difficult for Pacquiao to close the distance.
Just watch this sparring video to understand what I'm talking about.
3) Corruption
We've seen Pacquiao robbed before by Bradley. Bradley was a likeable guy with an undefeated record. Many speculated that Arum knew Manny was on his way out and wanted to create a new star. Algeiri is a good looking and likeable American who is undefeated. If it is a close fight, I wonder if it would go to the good-old Pacman or go to the newer up-coming guy.
These are all speculation, but I think this'll be one hell of an interesting fight. In my opinion, given what 'could' happen, I think this is one of the most dangerous fights he could take - aside from another Marquez fight. I could be wrong and Pacquiao could wipe the floor with this guy, for all I know.
INb4 Floyd Comments: I think Mayweather is also taking a similarly calculated risk with Maidana. Maidana could be all figured out and get UD'd easily or he could come out even harder and meaner than ever. Both fighters are taking potentially risky fights.
Nope, it isnt just the chin that is an issue. It isnt that simple.
Khan has low ring IQ and his footwork sucks. He is off balance often times and leaves his chin in the air.. there are many flaws in his game ..
This is some truth right here.
What has Canelo done to kick Floyd out of his date? his PPV numbers have been weak. Same goes for Cotto, his PPV with Martinez underperformed. Yes the fight would be big but it would be just stupid to have it on the same night as a Floyd ppv. Both fight's money would take a hit. Now, having Canelo/Cotto at the garden during the Puerto Rican holidays would prob be the most smart decision.
It doesn't take a genious to see that Floyd Mayweather Jr events bring in the most money for Golden Boy. Golden Boy and the MGM arena have Floyd's back because he makes them the most money.
Mark my words, Floyd is figting May vs Khan and Sept vs Swift. I put that on my momma.
IF the Canelo/Cotto fight happens it will be sometime during the summer, most likely during the puerto ricn parade weekend in New York.
Why wouldn't you have a Mexican super star fight on a Mexican holiday? Golden Boy doesn't have Floyd's back. Oscar, the head of Golden Boy, is backing Canelo on his claim for the May date. Money talks. Floyd Vs. Khan/Swift is not a priority.
Canelo-Cotto 1.0-1.5M PPV buys.
Floyd vs. Khan/Swift 800-1.1M PPV buys.
First off, Canelo/Cotto is faaaar from being a done deal. Stop talking like the fight is already signed. Second, there is ABSOLUTELY no way Canelo/Cotto happens on the same date as a Floyd Mayweather Jr PPV event, be it May or September, no matter who Floyd fights. It doesn't make sense at all. Why would you have two major PPV events on the same night?
IF the Canelo/Cotto fight happens is going to be a summer event, june maybe july. That way they can bring in the most money. All this talk about Canelo wanting to take Floyd's dates are just that, pure talk. Canelo doesn't pick the dates. Old guys in suits do and those old guys know it would be stupid to have two major ppv events in the same night.
You're an idiot. That's the point. They're kicking Floyd out of his date. He either needs to fight better opposition and get more views, or he's getting 2nd pick of dates. Money talks, and a potential Canelo-Cotto match up takes priority.
Mayweather won far more convincingly the second time around. Maidana had none of the aggression he had in the first fight, which had won him rounds.
I have no idea what fights you were watching.
From the reddit thread on this, apparently he still has to claim tax on these 'free tickets'. He'd still have to shell 250-500$ out of his own pocket for something he may not even be interested in.
You have to remember that art, writing, and other trades are professions that people get educated and trained for. It's similarly insulting if you ask an English professor from Stanford to enter a writing sweepstakes for Super Bowl tickets. It's rude.

I'd have to say this is the best Floyd/Manny thread I've seen on ANY site in a long time. Most of the talk is actually about BOXING and not everone has to agree, but at least we aren't dragging promoters and PPV buys into it.
Cheers!
Agreed.
Good thread.
Lol I can't even ... We used 16 (maybe 18 can't remember) oz everlast gloves in sparring all throughout my AM days and WE WERE KIDS ... Seriously 8oz "sparring gloves" ? My thing is even if he got to use the approved red ones ... What happens ? He ko's Mayweather ? ...
We'll never know.
