Will probably have trouble finding a decent live stream for the Michael Jennings fight. If we were given a choice I'd have definately picked the welterweight fight over the middleweight mismatch.
How is Mikkel Kessler over-rated? If anything he is under-rated, the only time he was bordering on over-rated was before the Joe Calzaghe fight, but now he seems to be getting the same treatment from the Americans that Jeff Lacy got after he was demolished by Calzaghe. You know the treatment I'm talking about, when they all pretend they knew all along that he was no good and that Calzaghe's win was nothing, and Kessler is an average fighter.
The light middleweight division is a pretty week division to be fair. There is only a couple of worthwhile fights to be made there, and at the moment Paul Williams has shyed away from facing any of the other dangerous fighters. It appears he just wants names on his record or big money. Mikkel Kessler is at the top of a tough division and has let it be known he is only looking to face the top fighters. And as far as comparing resumes go, even if Williams beats Winky Wright I'd still say he's some way off matching Kessler. It's not like Wright is a young, hungry fighter and he hasn't fought in how many years?
The fight ain't happening because of the same old reason. If a guy knows he won't win a fight but doesn't want to openly duck, he thinks making a crazy demand for money, safe in the knowledge that it will never be accepted, I think they see that as a safe way out. I mean c'mon, do you honestly think the same people who put on that cool as hell Vitali Klitschko entrance in his last fight would try to short change anybody?
What is with this idea that if HBO or Showtime don't want a fight then it's dead in the water? Germany has one of the biggest ratio's for population that watch boxing, I'm sure this fight would be big money over there. It would also be picked up by many other networks scattered around the continent. If Paul Williams came to Germany and faught Sergiy Dzinziruk he would be broadcast live in more homes than if he just stays at home and fights another over the hill name.
It can no longer be used as an excuse that there's a lack of exposure or money over here. Germany is one of the leading countries in the world when it comes to boxing.
I've got 2143.46 points and counting that says you're wrong. You game?
What do points matter? Who really gives a damn about points on an internet forum? Certainly not me.
I will bet you 500 points that Jennings pulls the upset. The points should be there by the time this fight comes around.
And you should get great odds for this fight, say your 1 point to his 5 points.
what would you expect you daft c**t, i am not saying cotto will win, i am saying i will take cotto.
p.s calzaghe is a cherry picker!!!!
I wouldn't expect any less from a Scotsman, that's for sure.
P.S. Willy Limond, Ricky Burns and Alex Arthur, Scotlands holy trinity lmao.
You people are a disgrace! Roy Jones isn't diminishing nothing. In his last fight he lost a hard fought decision to the #1 pound for pound at that moment in time, cut him a bit of slack eh? There's nothing wrong with fighting Omar Sheika at this stage of his career, just a stay busy fight against a decent opponent.
Bitter
Bitter that Joe Calzaghe easily beat him, bitter that his only chance is making a fight ugly as hell, bitter that he was never as big a star as Roy Jones, bitter that he doesn't have the ability to back up his talk, bitter that not everyone believes him when he proclaims to be a boxing great, bitter that he doesn't get special treatment because of going to prison.
Yea, Ricky Hatton mania took a debilitating body blow the night he lost to Floyd Mayweather. I think the realisation that he can be beaten took a shine off of it all, hasn't really seemed the same since. Also the ignorant thoughts that I had about Hatton actually possessing a realistic chance to beat Floyd excited me alot. Although Manny Pacquiao might be pound for pound #1 I don't think he's anywhere near as good a fighter as Mayweather.
The last I saw about this was a news article on a respected boxing website with Mike Tyson denying anything of the sort from happening. Personally I think it's just Evander Holyfield looking for one more huge payday. If anything, Holyfield should chase another fight with Riddick Bowe. That could be one for the Paramount Comedy channel.
Don't get me wrong, I understand that Chris John is a very good fighter. He has a draw though, incase you didn't notice, and has been given many a gift back home in Jakarta.
Sergiy Dzinziruk is a decent fighter, but he's 32 years old and is at 36-0. He'd have to get another 10 fights out the way in a short space of time. Zsolt Erdei is another very good European fighter, but he's currently at 30-0 at 34 years old.
I don't really see anybody from the current crop of boxers we have before us at the moment who will be able to match Joe Calzaghe's record.
Yet Ricky Hatton, Roberto Duran, Kelly Pavlik and Miguel Cotto are some of my fav boxers
Erm... what do you want, a medal? Your ego is not the subject here.
You say **** Calslappy. Is that a rational thought? Or are those the words of a hater? Ok sorry man, next time I'll address them all as "those Americans haters, and those couple of anomalys not from America but who still hate". Will that make you feel better?
you alluded to me being anti white by the fact that my profile is 'plastered with picture of black boxers'.
Im not a hater I just dont think he is a good boxer or entertaining. I respect him but I dont like him.
Please dont think because you use polysyllabic words you are superior or more intelligent we all reach our own conclusions through our own experiences so if you love Calzaghe good luck to you but because we dont all adhere to this we are by no means anomalies (yes it changes to ies when plural)
"**** Calslappy" is not a respecful thing to say.
"**** Calslappy" was you attempt to come in here and get a reaction which is exactly what it has done. Congratulations, job well done. Can you grow up now please?
Thanks for the tip with anomalies, I was unaware as you can see by my previous posts.
SHit Im going to start fighting and get bum fights in my own back yard with my judges and Ill go 47-0!!!!!
The lack of quality opponents is always going to be a cloud over Joes Career
as it should be. But he deserves some credit for going undefeated just not as much as ya'll give him
he is not an ATG!
no one even knew he existed until he fought B-Hop
Its the casual fan that make a boxer a great
if you get the casual fan to gain some interest in you then you know you have made it
its sad but true.
That is why Oscar was so popular cause he got the most casual fans to love himj and show interest in him. They are the ones that bought his PPV's
Joe is no where near that
What does you fighting in your backyard have to do with anything? Is that supposed to be a dig at Joe Calzaghe's resume? The guy has fought all over the world against numerous world champions so I have no idea what you're talking about if that's what you're trying to say.
There is no "lack of quality" in his opposition. Joe beat every top fighter who was willing to face him and many more contenders besides. There is no point lingering on what could have been, it is what was that is important, and what Joe done through his whole career is beat every single opponent he faced. Name me 10 fighters in the past 30 years on Joe's level who have done that?
Do you think the claim that no casual American boxing fan knew who he was until he beat Bernard Hopkins in any way lessens his acheivements? It's the casual fans loss, not Joe's. The whole of Europe has known who Joe Calzaghe is for over a decade now, and the wider world has been well aware since the Jeff Lacy annihilation.
Oscar De La Hoya may well be a more popular person than Joe Calzaghe, but Joe's legacy pisses all over Oscar's, and Joe is by far the better fighter of the two. The only people who would claim otherwise is a couple million US housewives, and some really, really, really in-denial people.
Well, I don't like being disrespectful to anybody, but of course alot of the time arguing on boxing forums causes you to do just that. I kinda regret it later after I read over what I said. Every single fighter out there deserves respect. Yes, even Charlie Zelenoff.
What more does Joe Calzaghe have to prove? When men like Barry McGuigan, who was a top, top boxer himself are giving opinions like that, it is clear to see that he has earnt the respect he was looking for, and he has won over many a continent. This man can go into retirement safe in the knowledge that he done himself proud, he done his family proud, he done his country proud, he done the world proud. He never gave up, he never got beat, and he showed us all how it is supposed to be done. Great fighter.
I thought Calzaghe was gay? I heard he lived with two bodybuilders....
Joe got a pretty tasty bird actually.

A prime Roy Jones Jr. is a fearsome proposition for any man to face. I like that song Ya'll Must've Forgot aswell haha. I like Roy he is and always was good for the sport. Gotta be up there in my top 5 fighters at the moment.
TheManchine if you are being serious then that is pathetic. Chris John? Faruq Saleem? I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you are some kind of sarcastic, wannabe comedian poster. Haha, oh man I see the funny side now, haha damn that was a good laugh.
Now, to the question at hand. I think in this day and age it is alot easier for fighters to get to world titles and even make multiple defences before facing anybody with a pulse. Look at someone like Andre Berto for example. Regardless that he lost to Luis Collazo, he is the kinda fighter who, if he avoids the unification fights could carve out alot of wins against fighters of the Steve Forbes variety. I don't think he can duck the other top welterweights all that long though to be honest.
I can honestly see Arthur Abraham retiring undefeated, but I imagine he'll be around the 35-0 mark at that point, not almost 50 like Joe. Can't think of anyone else at the moment.
You're probably right. JCC Jr is only 22 years old, already 38-0 and hasn't shown any intention to step up his level of competition.
He'll make the step up to contender class sooner or later and will well and truly get Amir Khan'ed.
