Who is more overrated Williams or Kessler ? Im not sure who to pick, because i believe the hype for Williams far outweighs what his skills are capable of achieving, but by the same token at least he has beaten top WW. Kessler is overrated, because he hasn't beaten a top fighter like Williams has, but people still think he is the best 168lbs based on a loss :lol1:
Ridiculous amount of praise for both, if you ask me. Im not a fan of either TBH.
Paul Williams is easily more overrated. I have nothing against Williams but some people think he's the next jesus christ or some shit. Kessler only has a few wacky fans. I don't even understand how this poll is so close.:dunno: To me Williams is hyped up much more than Kessler is.
Oh yeah. As I stated earlier the hype Williams is getting from flawless and his henchmen is really only fitting for Clark Kent.
Neither. This is complete bullshit. Both are UNDERRATED!
Calling Williams the new Tommy Hearns is underrating him :lol1:
People on here have said he could beat Floyd Mayweather too.
Williams beat 2 of the recognized WW champs (Quintana and Margarito)
Kessler lost his big shot at fame against Joe Calzaghe and turned down fights with Jermain Taylor.
I don't hate on Kessler, but IMO Williams is the guy everyone is keeping an eye on from 154-160
Who knows, maybe one day they'll fight. I'd love to see it.
So Williams beat 2 champs? Kessler beat:
Manny Siaca (WBA champ)
Mundine (later WBA champ)
Eric Lucas (former WBA champ)
Marcus Beyer (WBC champ) Kessler unified the titles.
Andrade (Mandatory challenger who gave Bute hell while Kessler didn't lose a minute of this fight).
Today Kessler is a 3-time worldchampion. Kessler's opposition >>> Pwill's.
Remember also that Kessler fought Calzaghe with a broken hand and he did not spar due to that injury.
Turned down Taylor? Where did you read that? From what I heard Dibella turned down Kessler on Taylor's behalf opting for easier fights instead.
Quintana recognized champ?
Beyer
Mundine ( not a world champ)
Andrade ( not a world champ)
Calzaghe (lost)
Clearly better than
Margarito
Did someone forget to tell you he lost to Calzaghe :lol1:
So why is his name on their?
Sharmba Mitchell (former world champ)
Antonio Margarito (former world champ)
Quintana (former world champ)
Beyer
Mundine ( not a world champ)
Andrade ( not a world champ)
Calzaghe (lost)
Wow, a decent reply from you. Let me give this a shot and before we get started I will put in the fact that this is just my opinion and I'm not alone based on the poll results so far.
First off, a hard fought UD win against Margarito is better than any win or loss on Kesslers record as far as I am concerned.
Secondly, his best win was against Anthony Mundine, who has shown some staying power, but he is no Margarito. I give Kess massive credit for fighting with Calzaghe for 6 rounds respectively, but I cannot rank him above a guy who beat Margarito at his peak, destroyed Quintana in the rematch and TKO'd Verno Phillips for the first time in 20 years.
I didnt disagree that Margarito was the best win. He did not look a beast in that fight.
You said Williams looked a beast against better comp? If the best you got is Quintana and VERNO (seriously?) then I think - as usual - you're talking out your arse.

Calzaghe is an infinitely better fighter than Margarito and Quintana combined. The only reason Quintana was champ was because he schooled Williams the first time.....
Since when did Kessler turn down a fight with Taylor? Do you people just make this shit up? Taylor is kicking and screaming over fighting Froch! And Di Bella has admitted they dont want to fight Kessler.

both these guys are pretty under rated imo, i think when you look at their physical capabilities and skills thn they are both potentially within the top 10 p4p. if anything i would have kessler one step ahead for now, he has faced proven competition at the highest level and shown that he can be competitive.
you could say that williams win over margarito, who later assumed the no.1 postion at 147 shows that he is the best in his division, however in that fight marg was competitive and came on strong at the end. Kessler on the other hand faced a bigger version of marg in andrade and manhandled him over the 12 rounds.
PW has shown a willingness to take on all comers and fights with just about every big player from 147 to 160 have been mentioned at one point or another. however kess himself is no wuss and has shown a desire to travel to the other champs backyard to make the fight.
PW's best wins are over verno phillips, margarito, mitchell and kolle - a fairly good level of opposition. considering that he hs been chasing fights with other fighters like mayweather and cotto.
kess however has a slightly better resume with bigger wins and more wins coming against the top 10 SMW's - mundine, andrade, beyer and lucas were all ranked in the top 10.
when you break down their physical capabilties and skills they also come pretty close, kess imo is quicker, stronger, more powerful and the better boxer with better footwork. however williams has a better workrate, better chin and better stamina.
there really isn't alot that sperates the two fighters. imo they both belong in the top 10 p4p if you throw resume's out of the window. i just hope that they get the fights that they are alooking for, williams finally has chance to earn the mainstream recognition that he deserves and kess's division has the likes of bika and miranda along with the more established taylor and froch.
Kessler handled Andrade easier than Williams handled Margarito, because Margarito is a better fighter than Andrade. That should be commonsense to you. Andrade is not even on the level of Margarito so using him as a yard stick dont hold any water either.
I don't think either man is overrated, but Williams has proven to be a beast against better competition thus far.
So if i had to pick one, it would be Kessler.
A beast against better competition? Who?
Pitty patting your way to a close decision against Margarito is not being a "beast".
Kessler, most of his fans think him untouchable and he's not really looking to make the top fights that would propel him as an elite fighter. Williams has a marquee name on his record but unlike Kessler, it's not in the loss column.
kess has so far looked to take on calzaghe (again), hopkins, dawson, froch and taylor.
its just a shame that the 2 fighters that he really needs to fight are the ones who are caught up with each other. at least if they signed then kess could move onto fighting bika, miranda or someone else.

I voted Williams.
I rarely hear from Kessler on the news and stuff. About Williams its "Hes gonna win a bunch of titles in different divisions" and stuff. The guy has yet to have a succesfull title defense.
