At this rate, if Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. keeps fighting bums, he may very well be the first boxer to reach 100-0 just within a decade.
good point amigo:biggthump these calzaghe fans are realy putting to much emphasis on his record. any decent fighter can do that if they face bums. he held the wbo world title for 10 years. thats the least significant belt out of the four. plus beat two 40 year old greats. put his record into perspective pleez!
Calzaghe paid his dues man, he didn't pass on no one unlike Floyd Mayweather whom had a chance to give Cotto his 1st loss while Cotto was at his absolute peak, he passes on him so he can take on the much smaller man (Hatton) whom has already shown the world that he doesn't belong in Welterweight. Calzaghe fought Kessler in Kessler's weight and beat the shit out of him, even had him saying "Calzaghe crushed my dreams" the next day nd do we even have to talk about Lacy? these were 2 prime fighters and Calzaghe beat them both relentlessly, he then beats Hopkins and Roy Jones to cement himself.. true Roy was far past it but Bernard wasn't, Bernard till this day still got a lot of juice left so Joe wasn't fighting no average man when he fought B-Hop, give Joe his credit man he deserves it.. I respect him much more than I respect Floyd Mayweather Jr any day, Floyd tainted his career by not continuing to fight the best fighters in the world. for the spot he was claiming, for the spot of #1 pound for pound king you MUST fight the best, this is why Pacquiao is the best now because his last 5 fights were all hard for him and his upcoming fight is probably his hardest due to the fact that Ricky will be at his NATURAL CAREER WEIGHT, a weight where he has yet to be defeated in.. Calzaghe will be remebered as a warrior, a charismatic pugilist with lots of heart and pride, he can walk away comfortably..
OMG!
LMAO
LEt me see
he passed on Pavlik, Miranda, a rematch with B-hop, Jermaine taylor, King Arthur, Froch, Dawson, Glen Johnson,
do I need to go on?
He is a good fighter bro but elite or great hell no
lets see him fight half of those guys and see if he doesnt lose at least once.

It easy, Valuev was 44-0 He's Hopeless.
If you think what Joe did is amazinly great (in the wider scheme of things), youve been taken for a ride.
Warren fooled you!
Now, to the question at hand. I think in this day and age it is alot easier for fighters to get to world titles and even make multiple defences before facing anybody with a pulse. Look at someone like Andre Berto for example. Regardless that he lost to Luis Collazo, he is the kinda fighter who, if he avoids the unification fights could carve out alot of wins against fighters of the Steve Forbes variety. I don't think he can duck the other top welterweights all that long though to be honest.
coming from a Calzaghe supporter, that is hilarious
SHit Im going to start fighting and get bum fights in my own back yard with my judges and Ill go 47-0!!!!!
The lack of quality opponents is always going to be a cloud over Joes Career
as it should be. But he deserves some credit for going undefeated just not as much as ya'll give him
he is not an ATG!
no one even knew he existed until he fought B-Hop
Its the casual fan that make a boxer a great
if you get the casual fan to gain some interest in you then you know you have made it
its sad but true.
That is why Oscar was so popular cause he got the most casual fans to love himj and show interest in him. They are the ones that bought his PPV's
Joe is no where near that
What does you fighting in your backyard have to do with anything? Is that supposed to be a dig at Joe Calzaghe's resume? The guy has fought all over the world against numerous world champions so I have no idea what you're talking about if that's what you're trying to say.
There is no "lack of quality" in his opposition. Joe beat every top fighter who was willing to face him and many more contenders besides. There is no point lingering on what could have been, it is what was that is important, and what Joe done through his whole career is beat every single opponent he faced. Name me 10 fighters in the past 30 years on Joe's level who have done that?
Do you think the claim that no casual American boxing fan knew who he was until he beat Bernard Hopkins in any way lessens his acheivements? It's the casual fans loss, not Joe's. The whole of Europe has known who Joe Calzaghe is for over a decade now, and the wider world has been well aware since the Jeff Lacy annihilation.
Oscar De La Hoya may well be a more popular person than Joe Calzaghe, but Joe's legacy pisses all over Oscar's, and Joe is by far the better fighter of the two. The only people who would claim otherwise is a couple million US housewives, and some really, really, really in-denial people.
TheManchine if you are being serious then that is pathetic. Chris John? Faruq Saleem? I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you are some kind of sarcastic, wannabe comedian poster. Haha, oh man I see the funny side now, haha damn that was a good laugh.

I can honestly see Arthur Abraham retiring undefeated, but I imagine he'll be around the 35-0 mark at that point, not almost 50 like Joe. Can't think of anyone else at the moment.

Calzaghe was not the favorite against Eubank and Lacy, and shouldn't have been the fav against Hopkins, being that he was jumping up in weight to fight a top 5 p4p fighter. Kessler was almost an even fight as I can remember.
Floyd Mayweather has been the favorite in all of his fights but one, which was almost even money. Does that mean all he fought was bums?
wow so much hate on ur sigh quotes! :nutkick:
depends who is willing to take the engineered career route.
Alot of Warren fighters pad their records senseless.
I mean if Calzaghe can have 46 bouts, and be the overwhelming favourite in 45 of them, im sure Warren can do the same for someone else

He'll make the step up to contender class sooner or later and will well and truly get Amir Khan'ed.
Actually, the WBC has already turned him into a fringe contender, #4 with that resume? What a fraud! The funny thing is that he will surely run head-on into a KO by Kermit Cintron, Sergio Martinez or Vernon Forrest. But as long as he remains fighting in bumland, there should be no problem.
You're probably right. JCC Jr is only 22 years old, already 38-0 and hasn't shown any intention to step up his level of competition.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that Chris John is a very good fighter. He has a draw though, incase you didn't notice, and has been given many a gift back home in Jakarta.
Sergiy Dzinziruk is a decent fighter, but he's 32 years old and is at 36-0. He'd have to get another 10 fights out the way in a short space of time. Zsolt Erdei is another very good European fighter, but he's currently at 30-0 at 34 years old.
I don't really see anybody from the current crop of boxers we have before us at the moment who will be able to match Joe Calzaghe's record.
46-0
How long will it take for someone to get even close to that record?
Must be knocking on a few decades atleast.

You asked a question and I answered. John only needs 4 more wins and he'll be 46-0.
It might not happen, but it could.

True but the question was who could go 46-0, not 46-0-0.
Here's another candidate:
