Holy shit, that's on par with Peter Manfredo's schnozzer!
It's like there's no bridge on that nose at all. Certainly Calzaghe couldn't have done that even if he tried. :p
I have grown to become more impressed with him.
He was defensively impressive, and cool and unflustered.
Not his fault he recieved some outrageous gifts. He was top 168 pounder for a long time, and survived with no punching power whatsoever - impressive.
I haven't seen a single fight of his, but that face/nose pisses me off...

That is seriously one UGLY motherfucker.
Ottke was a beast

Calzaghe has had a couple of close decisions go his way, but he has undeniably deserved them all. Ottke on the other hand is bum who had the fight won before he even stepped into the ring.
Pretty much sums up Ottke's career.
A highly skilled defensive specialist with the p4p most boring style ever that I know of.
He was a winner of several controversial decisions but what NSB fails to understand is that it's as easy to see Ottke as a winner in those fights as it is to see his opponent as winner. I think I've watched nearly all his defenses and the most debateable was the Reid win. I could see Ottke winning the rest.
I doubt that Ottke's critiques has seen more than one Ottke fight at the most. Just sayin'...
I remember well only the Reid fight.Embarrassing stuff.
If you can't see that Calzaghe has a lot of haters - daggum, bsrizpac, TheManchine, etc. - than you must be blind or really, really stupid. :lol1:
Every fighter has haters. Mayweather,Klitschko,Jones,Hopkins, you name a fighter and I can find you a hater. That wasn't the point I was trying to make. You singled out The Machine as if he actually said something negative towards Calzaghe. His post didn't sound hateful and in no way do I see an agenda behind it.
Exactly.
I figured TheManchine would try to emphasize Reid's later comments about his fight with Joe in this thread. :nonono: TheManchine will do anything in his own subtle way to try to convince people Calzaghe wasn't a great fighter...
:ugh::ugh::ugh:
This is what I said:
Reid did complain about the decision although it was only after he had re-watched the fight.
He turned down a rematch for money issues.
Which I backed up with a Robin Reid interview.

No offense, you seem a bit paranoid. Why would a certain poster have an agenda against Calzaghe? It sounds like a conspiracy theory to me.
By the way, these guys should have fought again. I would imagine Joe would be 100% fit for the rematch. In the first, he had a smashed up hand. That's the only reason it was a close fight.

Spud: Joe Calzaghe. Many people feel you won the first fight against Calzaghe. Do you want to fight him again, and has there been any serious offers to fight Joe since the first fight?
RR: I have to say to the first part yep I feel I won the first fight as well. I have studied a tape of it and I seriously believe I won that fight by at least 2 rounds and that includes the point deduction for the low blow. Each time I watch the tape, I think I won even more!!! The Referee always seemed to be on my case, don't get me wrong I think myself and Joe in that fight were as bad as each other, but it just seemed the Referee was always blaming me.
Everyone thinks I got paid an absolute fortune for that fight, bearing in mind I was the WBC holder, I really thought I would receive about 100k, it wasn't as if I was going into that fight as unknown! I made 3 successful defences of the WBC Title. I got paid 75k and it was only last year I received the last of the purse due to a dispute!
We thought bearing in mind how close the first fight was we would get paid a decent amount for a second fight, especially when so many people thought I won the first one. I was told I would get paid what I was worth, I was told it would be an offer I could not refuse, in the end all I was offered was 90k, that was only 15k more than the first time around.
No one could tell me that people would not have been interested in a second fight, all I wanted was to be paid for what I was worth! To be honest I thought I was going to be offered 150k and as I say I was offered 90k, that is why the second fight never came. It was shortly after that I signed for Jess Harding.
Hey, it was only later when Reid started complaining. That's a fact. Reid can talk all he wants, but at the time he had no complaints. Just watch the interview after the fight.
And why does Reid think he's worth MORE money for a rematch? He'd just lost to Calzaghe. How the hell can he expect to be paid more?
Warren said "Reid is a cheeky bastard". And in this case, I actually agree with Warren.

Now this is Reid talking some sense.......

Ok Reid didn't complain but why would that stop a fan from doing so?
Because "a fan" is biased.

No offense, sir, but that's complete bollocks. You may be in disagreement with the judges, but Joe didn't rob him... cause he wasn't the one putting the points down on the score cards.
Reid had no problem with the decision (see the post-fight interview). Reid also turned down the rematch.
So if Reid himself had no issues with it, and also turned down the rematch, then why complain? It was clear to me, 7 rounds to 5 for Joe, plus the point taken off from Reid for dirty tactics here and there. Clear win for Calzaghe if you ask me.
Compare it to the Ottke fight. Big difference.

I'm a big fan of Robin Reid, my defences of Calzaghe generally revolve around people calling Reid a bum.
But Reid didn't beat Calzaghe, Reid said so himself after the fight and the judge who scored it for him was watching a different fight to everyone else in the building and watching on TV.
7-4-1 Calzaghe as a Reid fan who was saying he was going to win easy before the fight.
I am a big fan of Reid myself, the robbery comment was in jest. So hopefully you ingested it properly.
I was surprised when I got around to watching some of his fights and found they were not robberies after all. I thought he clearly defeated Johnson...
Even the Reid fight wasn't really any different than the Johnson-Dawson fight, although the referee did seem to be protecting Ottke (much like Cortez protected Mayweather from Hatton).
Haven't seen much of Ottke but I do know that up until his retirement he was considered the world's best super middle.
There is only one similar comparison. They both robbed Robin Reid. He has a fitting name. "Robin" Reid... Stop robin Reid of his victories....
