The truth is plenty of fighters of today would whoop the greats of the 70’s 80’s and 90’s.
Fighters just don't develop the same ring craft fighting as infrequently as they do these days, and rarely facing the best competition.

Fighters like Pacquiao could compete in any era. Hopkins could compete in any era. Roy Jones could compete in any era.

If Canelo were in the 80s, he would have to fight several more Floyd calibur fighters, and he just wouldn't win those fights for the same reason he didn't win against Floyd.

Its really telling when people say "yeah but Canelo was 23".

SRL was 24 for the first Duran fight.
Tommy Hearns was 23 for the first Leonard fight.
Benitez was 21 when he fought Leonard, and 24 when he fought Hearns.

If Canelo could hang with those dudes, why is he too young at 23?

Canelo is good but he is methodical and slow with his footwork......it’s just that he hasn’t faced a mover because he would struggle.
He was just walking around the ring at one pace and smith was just laying up on the ropes....smith is just not elite level

Canelo does not have the better footwork or jab. Hagler was clearly better in both of those areas. That's how I know you don't know anything about Hagler or this topic.

Canelo would have never fought Hagler anyway.

You're showing your ignorance here. If you don't know anything about Hagler which you clearly don't, you should stay in your lane. You can't pretend to know about something you obviously don't.

Duran was an all time great, but he was a former lightweight, and Hager went life and death with him.

Canelo knocked out Kovalev at Light Heavyweight. Canelo and Hagler would be like the war between Hagler and Hearns, but Canelo may have a better chin than Hearns.

Canelo`s footwork is not elite at all. That is why he lost to Mayweather when he was young.

Hagler was no joke, he was a real deal. he was better than any version of GGG and Canelo needed robberies against GGG.

Always thought Hagler was a bit overrated anyway.
