Styles makes fights
And Hagler isn’t right for Canelo.
Saul wouldn’t beat a guy with those attributes plus that kind of boxing ability.Comment

Canelo's struggled the most against opponents with very good footwork. Hagler might not fit that mold in the exact same way as the likes of Lara and Mayweather but he's exceptional at creating angles with his feet and seamlessly switching stances in the middle of his attack. That's what I think gives Hagler an edge and makes his offense too much to handle for Alvarez, though it'd definitely be a good, competitive fight. I think it would be Alvarez's hardest fight by far but I don't know if it's true vice versa.Comment

Canelo’s chin is hard to quantify because I’ve never seen the guy take a flush hit.
But you don’t get that far in his career with all that fancy **** (hands down & sitting in the pocket) if you don’t have a solid chin.
Whether he can take 2 rounds of bombs from a prime Hearns is a question in itself!Comment

Hagler has probably the greatest chin the sport has ever seen. He has brawled with some of the hardest punchers the sport has ever seen, and none of them slowed him down. He was always in fantastic shape, could fluidly switch from southpaw to orthodox.
Hes coming to fight every second of every round, and there is nothing you can do to stop him from doing it.
You better be able to move, because nobody has come out for the better standing and trading with the Marvelous one.Comment

Yeah but how much of that was peds?(back then they were all doping,it wasn't thought of the same way it is now because it was so easy to get away with)Hagler has probably the greatest chin the sport has ever seen. (I'm not saying Canelo would beat Hagler btw,its always up for debate in these mythical matchups because of intangibles & different eras & training methods etc.,
as far as the question of whether Canelo is better than Hagler or will be considered once retired better,
,I think nostalgia makes it impossible for modern fighters to surpass prior era fighters Because no matter what they do & how young they start fighting the best, even if Canelo beats Charlo,Andrade, Benevidez,Plant,BJS, Beterbieve before retiring,he still will be said to get Murdered by Jones & Hagler, both of whom are deified despite both having many flaws like any fighter.
Ps I also disagree about"the biggest punchers the sport has ever seen" he was a career mw who faced all the best but he could've faced them multiple times & they had same day weigh ins many of those fights(Kovalev is a natural lhw, weighed 200lbs,& was literally nicknamed the Krusher, yet he didn't even phase Canelo who walked him down (Kov before Ward was considered a much harder puncher than Ggg for example),& Haglers biggest career flaw was he didn't fight enough top guys before retiring pretty young (Leonard rematch not happening was through his own fault,& he lost that fight with 1 card being identical to Byrds card,& Ggg probably was considered among the hardest punchers at mw pre Canelo.
Bottom line is Canelo finally has an argument to make in that matchup, but nobody would ever ko Hagler thats for sure, I also don't think Hagler could ko Canelo either,I think it'd be a great fight impossible to know for sure prime v prime.Last edited by kushking; 01-24-2021, 07:20 PM.Comment
