Hagler's chin, swarming, and workrate would be a huge challenge for Canelo. Golovkin is the closest in style to Hagler, but when they fought, G was older than Hagler was at retirement. You imagine a 30 year old Hagler stalking Canelo, throwing a 60 punishing shots each round, and I'll give the edge to Hagler every time.

Big fan of Hagler. Studied his fights and switching style as a youth. Absolute nightmare to fight because you he had good boxing skills but could also put the engine to work and outfight you.
But I have always believed in styles make fights and Hagler does not have the style to beat Canelo in my opinion barring a big shot landing.
Hagler is not much taller then Canelo but he is longer in reach. Canelos speed advantage will negate most of that though.
Duran fought Hagler to what almost a draw. I love Duran as well but in all honesty, Canelo is pretty much a bigger more disciplined Duran. I believe he will be able to stand his ground with Hagler and what would transpire would be a fight for the ages.Comment

Hagler all the way
Canelo did not have his stamina tested. He is fast because he explodes every now and then. He is successful because he has enough power for opponents to think and really choose when they will open up, therefore opponents work rate lowers substantially. Hagler will eats his punches every single time and pay no mind to them. If Hagler hunts Canelo , Canelo will be tired by the 8th round. Then Hagler will take over. The advantage Hagler has over Canelo is his chin work rate and stamina.Comment

Hagler stops and destroys Canelo in 5 rounds. He would win the exchanges and he can take anything Canelo throws at him.Comment
