Is Eddie Hearn overrated as a promoter?

No. Just look at the state of British boxing before Hearn and after. Look at how Kell brook, carl froch, Tony bellew careers we’re going before Hearn and how much they made after. Match room had already reinvigorated British boxing before Joshua had any major traction, with some pretty limited talent pool, the difference was the match making and promoting. Joshua was fighting on under cards while Hearn had Froch and Groves selling out Wembley stadium. Frank Warren couldn’t sell out Manchester arena after Fury had beaten wlad during this same period lmao.
Your post is very US centric, match room USA has been a dud but Hearn has gone as far as you can go in the US as a foreign promoter without major network backing(dazn isn’t established). The tell tell here is if you give Hearn PBC or TopRank stable with those network deals would boxing be more popular and would better match ups be happening more frequently? I believe so.
USA badly needs its own Eddie Hearn, but not necessarily Eddie Hearn himself.Last edited by CharlieStewart; 11-08-2020, 02:47 PM.Comment

a lot of people forget that back in the days there were a lot of promoters. not just arum and king but cedric kushner, dan goossen, butch lewis, main events...so many. i look at hearn along those lines. he would have been one of many.
out of all those guys, only one or two survived. i dont think hearn would have either. not in the us. and i think we have seen that with the failed dazn usa experiment.Comment

Who made David Haye rich? Who made Tony Bellew rich?LMAOOO. You obviously have no clue.
AJ had the worst matchmaking in HW history for a novice but he was good enough to survive and that’s why I believe he’s the best of this generation by a mile. The guy barely had an amateur career but was rushed.
I don’t even think you know who AJ was before he turned pro. How many boxers do you know have sell out crowds in their debut pro fight? AJ did that.
No, Josh made Hearn the same way Mayweather made Al Haymon. A guy like Canelo for example was made by DLH while Mike Tyson was made by Don King and TV Networks looking for a new boxing superstar.
Who made Amir Khan multi million 3 fight deal?
Who in Covid-19 gave chisora £7m as underdog against Usyk?
Etc
And Who signed the only $1b boxing deal for 16 fights?Comment

Hearn did make Haye rich - Haye self-promoted himself with Adam Booth and he was never signed to Matchroom even when he retired and came back.
Bellew is neither rich nor popular for his boxing ability.
Amir Khan only signed to Hearn when he was done and his career is over.
DAZN was mostly based off AJ’s starpower, hence DAZN was trying everything to make him fight in the US. And the $1billion deal is a 4-yr contract broken down to 16 events a year for $250million renewable annually based on performance. He was on the verge of losing that contract in 2019 when all the events were flopping and that’s why AJ had to go fight in the US to save the contract.
You obviously have no clue. LMAOOO at 16 fights deal for $1billion. You must think DAZN grows money on trees. LMAOOOComment

You and the other guy are clueless. You just see Hearn flapping his lips everywhere and you think he’s responsible for everything, lol.
All the Olympians with Matchroom are half-ruined apart Okolie. And funny how, Josh Taylor, the only one who didn’t sign with him is the one winning titles.
Hearn’s problem is that he’s not as intelligent as he tries to sound. And nepotism runs deep at Matchroom. Rather than employ competent people - everything is in-house. Fat Frank Smith who knows nothing about boxing was made president and I’m sure it’s another ***ish guy who has no clue is in-charge of matchmaking. Hearn thinks just throwing money around to make fights that will sell tickets is the end all, be all. But the job of a boxing promoter is more robust than that.Comment

Bellew is worth £10m, you claiming that isn’t rich?!
Amir Khan got £20m for three fight deal.
He secured $1b with Dazn, no other promoter has even come close to that amount for any number of events.Comment
