There’s no such thing as a lucky punch in boxing.
It was not a lucky punch at all

A lucky punch to me needs two things
1. Come against the run of the fight
2. Be a shot that ordinarily wouldn't land. I.e comes off a ****** error by the recipient that he wouldn't normally make.
This one had 1, but it didn't have 2 as Whyte was open for it the whole fight.Comment

Is it luck though? Povetkin certainly wasn't any, it was well planned.A lucky punch to me needs two things

I dont think there's such things as a lucky punch in boxing because the boxer has meant to throw the/a punch...
I think we associate the luck with the situation of the fight, to which in Whytes and Povetkin case, it seems lucky because Whyte was on top and seemingly in control right up until a single movement and a single punch. It seemingly came from nowhere to us watching but Povetkin set him up for it using the reasons you stated (open for it)Comment

I agree, you don't underrate Povetkin and I said the same before the fight.I don't get that at all...Pre-fight i said Whyte shouldn't have taken this fight.
The only idiots who called it a cherrypick were the same ones who called Ruiz a cherrypick. For one, Povetkin is a great amateur and pro, he might be 40 but he has the experience to go with that 40.
The same people who hype up Luis Ortiz who has achieved nothing as a pro or amateur. Watch how everyone else cherrypick who they fight, We have Ruiz coming back and fighting Arreola.....
Those calling 'cherry pick', let's be honest, do the same before any Matchroom fight.
But, Whyte was the favourite, and he was well on top. Anyone saying they fully expected that after Round 4 is kidding themselves.
And, yes, it was a beautiful punch. I'm not 100% about the 'set up' people are claiming, to me it just looked like a move Povetkin had in his locker and he executed it perfectly when the chance came.Comment

Did you see Povetkin's last fight with Michael Hunter? He was damn near KO. He looked very old and got his asswhooped. He received a gift Draw from the judges.
Michael Hunter was robbed in that fight. That was the reason why Matchroom and Eddie Hearn cherrypicked Povetkin because he appeared so frail and vulnerable in that fight.Comment

Hunter is very underrated though. Plus Whyte was there that same night looking like absolute **** against Wach, not to mention the guy went life and death with Chisora twice.Did you see Povetkin's last fight with Michael Hunter? If Hearn considers Povetkin a cherrypick for a guy at Whytes level hes drastically overrating how good Whyte actually is.Comment

Hunter is one of the most talented boxers at cw/hw.
The only reason he can't make a real noise at hw is his size.
The fact Pov went distance with him should have shown Pov is no near to be shot or mentally retired.
But it seems guys from Whyte's camp missed it..)Comment

I agree; Actually he was overrated. He was never on the same level as Wilder, Fury and Joshua to begin with.Hunter is very underrated though. Plus Whyte was there that same night looking like absolute **** against Wach, not to mention the guy went life and death with Chisora twice.

He along with many boxing fans alike saw a fight with Povetkin as a mismatch. Most people on this forum thought that Whyte was picking on an old aging fighter who was well past his prime and on the decline.
Eddie Hearn felt the same way about Andy Ruiz too. He never thought Ruiz has a snowball's chance in Hell of defeating Anthony Joshua. However, he did. Both were cherrypicks gone wrong. I have to admit, that Matchroom sure knows how to match make

Fighters will sometimes lose in decent fights that people will be prepared to pay to watch.
The alternative is fighting bums in fights no-one wants to see, so no-one gets paid.Comment
