The fact is Ruiz and Povetkin were considered bum fighters in the first place. which was why they were chosen. If Eddie Hearn thought that either were dangerous opponents could defeat Joshua or Dilllian he would have never selected them.

Besides, no one wanted to see AJ/Ruiz or Whyte/Povetkin anyhow because both Ruiz and Povetkin were considered overmatched and limited opponents with very slim chancse of winning.

i think the suggestion would be more a case of if you're going to cherry-pick (as they were trying hard to), then at least get it right or you end up looking very very silly

Hilarious and informative! This made my day! Lol

povetkin was already throwing that uppercut prior to the knockout...it was part of his fight plan so of course it wasn't a lucky punch

I agree with AJ/Ruiz to an extent (although tbf it was a late replacement and they wanted an American opponent for Joshuas US debut) but Whyte/Povetkin is not the same at all. Povetkin has only ever lost to Joshua and Wlad, and all indications suggested he still had some life in him despite being 40. Whyte has never shown anything that would make me expect Povetkin to be an easy fight for him either - not his close fights with Chisora, or his close fight with Parker, or him getting sparked out by AJ (who himself didnt have an easy time with Povetkin).

Like I said, if Hearn thought Povetkin was a cherrypick for Whyte, hes incompetent. Especially if he was basing that on Povetkin going 12 hard fought rounds with Hunter.

That is a very cerebral punch, the entire mechanics of the movement 'Plus Povetkin was in the fight' from the very start etc

It was by no means a one sided fight, I had to put the volume on mute 'Because the commentators where sayings otherwise'.

Povetkin is going to have some momentum now, he will be difficult to beat in the rematch.

When Povetkin was trying to land that shot he kept one getting beat to the punch by that short left hook that Whyte was landing. Povetking got knockdown twice but still was trying to land it.

You can even see at the KO point Whyte was throwing that short hook too late.

There are no lucky punches in boxing and whoever believes that don't know boxing or are Whyte fans.

In fact I'm self-kicking my nuts for having been influenced myself by the Povetkin vs Hunter fight.

Based on that, I chose to put most of my betting money on Whyte within four rounds, and backed away from putting some on Povetkin from round 5 to 9, each of which would have paid 67x ...

You're right, Whyte was winning but it was a competitive fight.

The commentators were on Whyte's nuts all night.

Hearn would have probably advised against the Povetkin fight ,it was Whyte who wanted it and called for it awhile back. Hearn has no say in Whytes management he only promotes him . If a fighter was choosing Povetkin it wouldn’t be because of Hunter who should have lost that fight it would have been the AJ one because most fighters aren’t the same after taking shots like that at 40 years old now.

The truth is no one wanted to fight Povetkin without some type of advantage going in except AJ ,Hunter only took the fight because he knew Power was coming off shoulder surgeries and he had been knocked out by AJ prior to that .
