I'm about as high on GGG as anyone I've seen on here...and think it is certainly fair to compare him to those guys you mentioned though...his run at MW was at least comparable to any of those guys.

I agree that SD was a legit close fight...I could see someone getting to 7 rounds for Sergei there...I don't think the fight with Jacobs was that close though...can't really see Jacobs getting to 7 rounds or even 6...he did fight a good fight that night though.

How did you view the 2 Canelo fights with GGG?

The hype died down a lot after the Canelo fights thankfully. It wasn't just a few there was a lot making bold claims he'd beat all these ATGs even HWs as he was rumoured to in sparring and this was even dating back to before he proved himself vs Jacobs.

I can't recall my exact scores but I felt the first fight was scored spot on albeit one judge had it it way too wide but the result was fair and I had Canelo by a round in the rematch.

OK thanks for the reply man...yeah I remember seeing some of that stuff about sparring HWs and such...I could see how some could view some of that stuff with a side eye.

To be fair to GGG, I think he did live up to a lot of hype before Jacobs even...if he was really a hype job, I think it would have manifested much more before then - could have had a tough fight/dropped vs Lemieux/Stevens, went 12 with Brook etc...he ran through a lot of good pros with no real issues...that has always impressed me with him as most guys have a hiccup or two in that type of run.

But hey all we can do is evaluate everything we see and call it like we see it my friend!

Hypekin promised fans the world... but delivered nothing

        " anyone from 154-168 "... derp derp derp ...

his best win was a HUGE underdog, and Golovkin struggled in that fight

he will retire with no signature win, having avoided MANY world-class opponents

Broners career has been more entertaining

Even if in a more limited extent than the other names listed in this thread, I think that one of the biggest hype jobs in recent times is Callum Smith.

Hands down it was Golovkin because HBO hyped him up and boxing fans followed him only because he was white. White people never followed Deontay Wilder. They always hated him because he is a black.

whether you realise it or not ggg was competitive in both fights with canelo who is a fantastic fighter. Fury absolutely destroyed Wilder and proved that he can only fight on the front foot definitely Wilder is overrated.

He's a 4 division champ (straw, light fly, fly, super fly) and his only 2 losses are to Sor Rungvisai. He's a great fighter even if he never wins again.

Bro it's kind of a chicken and egg scenario...but listen to Wilder's comments...he basically says he is fighting for his people, for black people.

I don't hate the guy at all, he is a dangerous and imo a great fighter...but he doesn't exactly have a super inclusive pitch to get white fans on board lol.

I mean look at GGG...you could say it is pandering in a way...but he had the 'Mexican style' and trainer...and a lot of his fans are not just white fans...he doesn't seem to preclude anyone from being a fan of his.

Again you could argue that it is a chicken and egg scenario...where Wilder makes comments like he does because of xyz...but when I hear stuff like that it basically says to me he doesn't want some guys on the team man lol.

Which is fine...I love boxing and support guys whose styles I like really...race comes after that for me...I like Wilder's style in some ways and not in others so am not a huge fan, but I also have nothing against him.

Fury may just be a tough matchup for him...but he would have a puncher's chance against anyone, Fury included...I hope to see Wilder in vs Whyte and AJ and Ruiz and I would still favor him in those fights.

Broner is a 4 division champion with a couple of good wins. Is he great?
