Every fight I saw of his he pretty much trucked through punches and used his face as a guard and his punching power to dispatch of opponents. I understand this is what a lot of people love to see, back and forth action ending in a KO, and i’m not butt hurt over anyone preferring some other style of boxing different than what I like. But I just don’t think this guy ever deserved to be top 5 P4P, let alone #1. A true hypejob who again, is praised by fans and writers wanting to look like they know more boxing than everyone else and since they “know” about Gonzalez they can call other boxing fans “casuals”.
He was pfp1, and there’s plenty of casuals on this forum. Yea... he wasn’t trucking through anything, always had good defense. Did he get hit? Yes, so does everyone, especially coming forward. Defense no worse than Durans or Pacquiao’s(better than Pacquiao’s actually, better than Foreman’s, Hagler’s, more on par with Chavez sr).

Bad defence is for sure a casual’s (or a hater’s), opinion. A plain exaggeration. Him getting stopped/losing gives you some credence and confidence in your statement, I get it.

I really don`t remember that debates. I was not very active when I registred back in 2014.

But with Monzon, I have just never seen it from him on film...a lot of past greats I think could compete in any era, especially taking weight class differences and training regimens into account...Monzon just always looks a bit amateurish skill wise imho and a bit small/skinny (for 160).

He was a really tough guy though...he did fight almost always in Argentina so I kind of look at results like that with a side-eye...to really be great I think you need to travel a bit...and besides Griffith I don't really see the names on Monzon's list either...and Emile did finish with 22 losses.

So accomplishments wise I don't really see it over GGG...and head to head I really don't see it...I think Monzon would clearly be fighting below 160 if he fought today...who knows though maybe I'm wrong...but he always even looks slower than GGG to me which would be one way to beat GGG...so yeah I just have never really seen it with him.

I just don't see the same style as today's guys in a fight like this.

he beat a whole pile of top fighters

Golovkin... did not beat a whole pile of top fighters, he actually avoided those fights

you would not know a good fighter if he walked up and punched you in the face

you simply embarrass yourself with your ignorance... and the thing is, it is just the usual basic standard of casual-fan ignorance... and clearly obvious

you just need to take time to learn the sport man, instead of blurting out rubbish that is above your pay-grade... we get it, you love Golovkin

But GGG didn’t have just close fights with Canelo, I thought he lost to Jacobs and Derevyanchenko. And I really don’t think the rematch with Canelo was all that close at all.

What makes GGG a hypejob though, is his fans and his people making topics about him and how he could beat anyone in the past and anyone from 154 to 175. It was actually pretty ridiculous. Saying that the claims of being overhyped comes from the Canelo fights shows that maybe you weren’t around to see the hype this man was getting. GREAT post !!

Golovkin fell WAY short of his OWN promises/hype

GGG was/is the real deal, one of if not the best 160lbers of the last 10 years.

He clearly beat Canelo in fight number 1 even if I believe yes he lost the rematch.

Broner was a bigger hypejob than both Golovkin and Wilder combined.

And Billy Joe Saunders ducked Golovkin. Live with that, Gypo.

Joshua got embarrassed by a fringe contender, yet Wilder is the hypejob for losing to the number one fighter in the division? Who hyped Wilder up anyway?

                      Canelo by a landslide.
