Serious question - does any group overhype their fighters more than the UK?

PBC fans for sure are #1. UK fans do get a little overzealous too but they get a pass because they are real fans who pack arenas, stadiums and cross the pond and make the atmosphere at the events fun. British and Mexican fans are the best with Brits far out in front.

Pretty much every thread I read on the topic had about an equal number of Davis/Smith supporters...thread below a good example of it.

Would like to see a poll from around that time...couldn't find it.

Ray just the other day, I saw you lamenting how the UK has basically brainwashed people that Whyte can beat Wilder...and I believe I saw you say that you would still, as I would, pick Wilder to beat AJ.

...no one has really ever said Wilder was anything other than a great athlete with a great right hand...the only 'hype' people have really given him is saying/wondering whether he is the biggest puncher ever...and a lot of people saying that are not Wilder fans btw.

I am certainly not a fan of his (unless he faces anyone from the UK not named Fury that is) and I wonder how great of a puncher all-time he actually is...he is certainly in the conversation.

Burns fights exclusively at home...and got absolutely embarrassed by Indongo...who got ran over asap by Crawford and Prograis.

Those latter two guys are world level, just fyi....Burns got embarrassed at home by the guy who didn't belong in the same ring as those two (great) fighters.

Cong****...you have one very good imho fighter (AJ) who has been carefully managed and has been protected very well, as he is a massive star in your country...because again, you cling to any type of success with your boxing stars and overrate it.

And then you do imho have a legitimately great fighter at HW in Fury.

Look at the two fighters that have been the biggest hype jobs of the last 10 years and you have your answer. Golovkin and Wilder.

I love the UK and its people...but yeah imho they are far and away the worst at overrating their fighters...it's just silly at this point.

With no other group do I notice so often a hyped up prospect losing in controversial/embarrassing fashion.

Do any of you actually think you are being given impartial boxing observations? See, itd never happen in UK, we don't get talked down to like we are all f*****g ******. But you believe it cos you're fed it 24/7.
Other than Al Bernstein, all I hear is ridiculous promotional bs from.Kellerman and co.
Wilder was 100% pure hype, and you come on here with your head stuffed up your arse. FOOH, you're talking to actual boxing fans. Your best guy just got thrashed by the 4th best UK hw.
Wilder is a ducking fraud. As well as a coward.
UK has taken over and it's better for all fight fans - go sit with Shelley Finkel, you're about as entertaining as that old dinosaur.

So Canelo, who you rate number 1 pfp...has an official draw and the narrowest win possible against GGG...yet GGG is the hype job of the decade lol.

Along with Wilder...who has 1 loss, to Fury...and to my knowledge Wilder has not been steamrolled by a fat little Mexican-American on short notice.

Idk man that guy who guy run over by the Pillsbury Dough Boy seems like a 'hype job' to me...still a good fighter though.

But like many UK fighters, they oversell them there because the public eats it up!

I’m with you, I don’t think GGG was a huge hype job. He had a great KO streak but it kind of worked against him. When he didn’t finish someone it looked like a bad night for him. After the Canelo fight Canelo could disparage him by saying “he doesn’t hit so hard” but that’s only because GGG had a reputation to live up to. It’s not like Canelo had the nerve to say he hits harder. If ggg doesn’t hit so hard then Canelo hits even less. It’s like ggg had more to lose. Canelo was lucky to get the draw, but with that precedent he knew how to win the second fight even if it was close to even. Truth is GGG needed to dominate, anything less looked bad for him. Canelo pays out the most so if there is any bias he’d be the one to deserve it. An older Canelo vs a younger ggg would be interesting also for sum perspective. I still think ggg is a fun fighter to watch even though his skills have eroded and he blocks punches with his face these days.

It is INARGUABLE that any fighter that becomes a champ has entered the top 1% of those who do what they do for a living and has made it to a place thousands of others have failed. Not one person on this message board is ranked in the top 1% at what they do for a living. Burns has been washed up for years when he fought Indongo but he beat another guy in Rocky Martinez who also rose into that 1% in the world, just like Indongo. Whatever you do for a living, you would be embarrassed if you tried to challenge someone who is world ranked, famous, or has been seen on national TV performing their craft like Burns, Walsh, and the rest. They have accomplished something huge and winning a title that many have failed to do is far from an embarrassment. Consider yourself schooled.
