A losing champ shouldn't be able to make rematch clauses like what Fast Eddie did.

Not to the extent the loser gets to set pay, time and venue and probably, ref, judges, dope tests and glove choice too now.

I'm hoping A side Andy tells em all to eff off and haymon backs him all the way to court.

He already signed the contract. Everything was agreed to and signed before the first fight. He can refuse to fight doe, which means he is prepared for the litigation that might follow. The press conference is actually starting now in the UK on sky sports. With or without Ruiz they are going ahead with what was obligated in his contract.

Seriously, do people not understand what a rematch clause is? It's like oh Andy shouldn't be bound to what he agreed to because he won, well yeah that's the only way a rematch clause comes into play.

AJ doesn't need the rematch he generates millions with anyone and if Ruiz chooses not to fight him he will have titles taking away with a civil.lawsuit because he has a signed live contract he agreed to .
              It's an interesting question, actually.

Beating AJ has made Ruiz into a star in Mexico and raised his profile tremendously world wide. If he fought Wilder next he would earn more than $9million, even without his titles.

Retiring for a while would get him out of his contract with Hearn and AJ, but would Wilder still be WBC champion when Andy came back?

It would be a risky strategy. And of course, he wouldn't be earning anything during his "retirement".

                No, they obviously don't.

The idea of a champion having a rematch clause which is only binding if he wins is hilarious though!

A contract is binding and if Ruiz don’t honour it he will then be taken court , stripped off his belts and unable to fight anywhere in the world and his career will be in limbo for the next 2 years at least.
All he has to do is fight Joshua for his highest purse ever and chance of becoming the top drawer in the division.
The delay must because he knows he was lucky the 1st time and knows Joshua will come in to the rematch fully prepared.
Mike Tyson was forced to give up his belts when he tried to sidestep Lewis and he was with king.
without contracts no big fights would ever happen. And they are there for a reason

Ruiz can't assume Wilder will be champion after 2020 and would he really be able to make 9 million after out of the spot light coming back off a guy like Wilder anyway ? Seems an improbable state Ruiz retires here with his new life style on the line and having to rely on Wilder as the guy to help you earn a big pay day, no titles ?
