On top of that, these ignorant fans kept saying Showtime Boxing was struggling because "ratings" have been down, not realizing Showtime started streaming fights live on their app, which isn't counted by Nielsen.
Meanwhile, HBO continued to refuse to stream their fights live, to keep up appearances in the ratings, while Showtime's subscriber base grew and grew.
Showtime's app has been a smash success, even if it's created the illusion that viewership is down. HBO focused on optics and ended up failing spectacularly, while SHO put their focus on the fan, and won the war in the process.
Yeah it reminds me of what Colin Cowherd said a couple weeks ago. 10 years ago, he'd get his ratings every morning to see how he did. Now they have a long sheet of different statistics to measure their success from streaming, ratings, social media, etc. Showtime expanded their budget because they saw that boxing was making them money and driving their subscribers.
