What PBC, DAZN & ESPN need to do....

Between FOX & SHO, PBC will automatically assume the #1 spot. The FOX shows will have so many more viewers than the ESPN & DAZN shows that it won't even be close.

ESPN will automatically assume #2. The ESPN shows will have so many more viewers than the DAZN shows that it won't even be close.

There's nothing DAZN can do to be #1 unless they spend so much money for so many years that it drives up purses to the point that FOX, SHO & ESPN pull out of the sport.

The problem is that if DAZN was willing to spend that kind of money for that many years, chances are they'd be able to nab a more important sport than boxing by that point and it'd be a waste to spend all that money to control a sport so much less important than the other options.

Not that you have any biased background or anything

DAZN are 2 months into a project. So far they have a bunch of cards. Matchroom - 16 uk. 8 Italy, 1 Monaco, 8 Germany, 16 us and 8 tbc.
    Golden boy - 10 cards.

Other sports such as ufc already on board and now growing into other sports too. I’m going to judge properly in a year but they have more content than I expected at this stage.

They already have a bunch of decent fighters. As said before this isn’t bad starting point at all and for the price point for me is far better than espn on quality and showtime because it’s far cheaper (taking into consideration the Ppv costs).

Fighters matchroom/golden boy have already as start:

    Joshua - world heavyweight champion/#1
Canelo - arguably biggest drawer in USA
    Usyk - undisputed cruiserweight
Katie Taylor - could well become the face of women boxing (time will tell)

Then lots of others who personally I like seeing, in particularly heavyweight division which they have Chisora, Whyte and Miller alongside options on Takam and Parker. They are obviously largely two divisions as core at the moment but that’s no different to showtime.

I haven't worked for Showtime in many years. DAZN currently buys content from me, but that has nothing to do with me posting my honest assessment here of what it would take for them to be #1 in boxing in the US.

Wouldn't matter if they had 900 cards from 900 countries. The question is what would they have to do to be the highest viewed boxing broadcaster in the US. The only thing they could do is spend so much on boxing for so many years that the Fox's and ESPN's of the world give up and quit the sport.

Fox is in over 100 million homes in this country. DAZN is in less than 100 thousand homes in this country. I'm rooting for DAZN, the Canelo deal is huge, DAZN is doing some exciting things, but the chances of them being the most viewed boxing telecasts in the US anytime soon is virtually zero.

They buy fights from me. I don't work for them. I'm allowed to honestly assess their prospects of having the highest boxing viewership in the US. A niche app can't generate the number of viewers Fox can. That's common sense.

Fox has 10 cards a year. ESPN has 18. Fox isn't even monthly. Some of their shows will get great ratings and some will just be okay. Those 10 shows a year should get better ratings than most of the ESPN shows but the FS1 shows won't outperform most of the ESPN cards.

As for DAZN they should focus on competing vs the ESPN+ cards. It will be tough being that ESPN+ already has 1 million subscribers with most of their growth due to boxing and has UFC coming aboard in January.

Fox doesn't put cards on Oct and Nov. DEC-SEP is their months. SHO should be every month from here on out.

I think ESPN will probably take that number 1 spot. The only gripe is they don't have many marquee fighters. PBC and Showtime need to put on fights people want to see in order to take over.

Dont matter how many cards they have when they have been garbage. No one is jumping to subscribe to see Eddie Hearns garbage cards and fighters no casual know. They have Canelo and AJ but no one really cares about AJ here in the US. Usyk is a top fighter but lets be real, he is a nobody as well and don't even mention womens boxing. PBC and ESPN dont always put on top fights and some of their fights might be showcase fights, but they are more accessible than DAZN cards are. Friends of mine were talking about watching Rios fight this past week since we know him and is from our home town, yet they didn't know what channel he fought and in the end didn't care to make the extra effort to watch him on DAZN. IF he was fighting on ESPN or on PBC I'm sure they would have watched.
