Either way it's a BS situation caused entirely by the WBAs inconsistency and/or corruption. The 'super' title was formed back in 2001, ostensibly for the purpose of reducing the burden of mandatories on Unified titlists, which although unnecessary (they could have just added a clause to their rules to reduce the number of defenses required for unified champs) at least had some logic behind it.

Then in 2009/10 they changed their rules to allow fighters with 5 or more defenses to become 'super' champs too... there was no logic (although there were allegations of money changing hands) behind this move and the sole beneficiary (at the time) was one Adnan Catic who was due to face a dangerous mandatory, a little known Kazakh called Gennady Golovkin...
Adnan Catic, of course is better known as Felix Sturm, the former German MW cash cow.

The reason for the rule change was revealed by a former employee of Universum, who promoted both Sturm and GGG.

Universum bribed the WBA to change their rules in order to have Sturm promoted to super champ so he didn't have to fight his mando with GGG, who was the interim champion. There had been no WBA super title at MW for 4 years till they did that.

Golovkin was then told that the title he had the right to fight for, as interim champion, had been downgraded to "regular" and was now vacant.

Anybody who knows the facts about that situation, and isn't biased against GGG, will accept that Sturm was a paper champion from that time on, and that Golovkin became the WBA MW champion when he beat Nilson Tapia for the vacant title in 2010.

The WBA super title is, or was, supposed to be awarded to unified WBA champions only, according to the WBA rules. By that I mean WBA champs who also held another belt, with another sanctioning body, as well as the WBA. That's why, if you look at the WBA records, the super title appears and disappears from time to time.

So GGG should have become super champ immediately after he won the IBF from Lemieux.
no he became it in 2014, period, as the wiki source says. and by promotion, not a fight , unless you cun.t the geale clash as it

no, you cannot own a title before you win it/are awarded it, even on planet Golovtard.

thats like saying tyson was really HW champ when he was a teenager redoing his high school diploma.

That's what I'm saying. There had been no WBA MW super title since 2012, when Geale was stripped of it for not fighting a mando with GGG.

i'd agre hagler would have taken hopkins and GGG.

although the rematch is anyones bet, seeing as Hagler's prime passed faster. All that backwards running, if you ask me.

As you said in a previous comment - in 2010, GGG won the same WBA MW title that was held by Hagler.

The super title that Sturm held had been literally created out of nowhere by the WBA to protect him from having to fight GGG.

Maybe on planet We Hate Golovkin that's acceptable, but I live on planet Earth.

Both prime Hagler and prime GGG would have beaten prime Bhop. They would have been 50/50 against each other. And I'm a big Hagler fan, btw.
