Is Adrien Broner the modern day James Toney?

I think the reason for some of the reaction was based on the first post, as it comes across like you are agreeing with the TS about everything he said, ie. Lost all their big fights, never made it to elite level, which is pure ******ity.Getting my "butt kicked" apparently.
Yet I don't see anyone even attempting to dispute any of my points
I am more than open to discussion. You know, on a discussion board.
When it comes to internet beloved fighters, when someone critiques them it becomes a sensitive subject. I mean, just look at this thread, been called a "hater" about 5 times or so. Pathetic!! I want to know how I am not being objective about his career.
One bozo actually said "you will be on suicide watch when Toney get's into the HOF"
How feminine can you get?
What you were saying is yes their career curve is similar, both were overrated relatively speaking, apart from Toney hit much higher heights.Comment

You’re entitled to that. I think with certain fighters (Oscar, for instance), I would argue the same way you do — the wins are what matter, not the near-wins.
So I think you can make a good case it isn’t impressive. I would be impressed if Golovkin fought on even terms with a LHW contender, let alone a HW lol. But yeah, in the grand scheme of things, a win is a win and a loss is a loss.Comment

you also have to take into consideration how he behaves in the history section when toney is brought up. the guy has it out for james toney for whatever reason. plain as day.
he's backing off on that post you're talking about, of course

That's fair enough I can see how that can be seen and I don't think I worded my response well but I have clearly clarified that in further posts.I think the reason for some of the reaction was based on the first post, as it comes across like you are agreeing with the TS about everything he said, ie. And yes of course saying Toney never made it to elite level and lost all his big fights is absurd and of course I don't agree with that.
The last paragraph, spot on. That's what I'm saying.Comment

In fairness - I think Toney is quite overrated also, but to put him in the same stratosphere as Adrien Broner...wellComment

Why do you refuse to adknowledge that I have clarified my stance multiple times?
I have made my stance clear in regards to who is (vastly) better out of the two.
How I behave? What's that by having a discussion on a discussion board? Lord forbid. I open discussions up like that in the history section in hope for a back and forth with another knowledgeable poster. Not for people to put their fingers in their ears and label it "hate" because they don't like an opposing opinion.Last edited by IronDanHamza; 12-20-2017, 01:31 PM.Comment

Im not going to jump on Iron Dan. Everyone has fighters that they see a little more critically than others... I happen to not be fond of Chavez and really have had a hard on for him since Sweet Pea outclassed him and didn't even get a W.
I do want to say that when any fighter is dissected all their wins can be explained away...and this is not directed at any poster in particular: I mean Tarver got a lucky punch against Jones... Until he got lucky? Louis was getting handled by Conn! Dawson against Ward? weight drained... You get the idea.
Larry if one were to compare the two men one could only hope that Bronner could control his impulsive side to the degree that Toney has managed. There is a story that when Toney was going to play Frazier, Will Smith was afraid to work with him. So Toney went to Will, looked him in the eye and told him he was not going to injure him, and the rest is history.
Joe Rein, a fantastic boxing voice (RIP Joe) loved Toney...Thought him to be one of the purest boxing minds/bodies around, a man who could be rude, uncouth until he took the robe off, and stepped into the ring.
So larry, bronner might look at Toney and see possibilities? I should hope so. But, they are worlds apart.Comment
