When Floyd was at 140? Or in 2006 when he beat the lineal champ Baldomir? Do I think Baldomir was better than Margarito? No. But Floyd fought only once at 147 after that before retiring for two years. Guess what he did when he came back? Beat the linear champ again. The guy who beat, you guessed it, Margarito.
Why is it when people mention GGG moving up Hagler is brought up?

I'm pretty sure DeGale's was in advanced negotiations with Jack at that time. Regardless Hearn never offered the DeGale fight to GGG (source) :
Promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions has backed the earlier statements of trainer Abel Sanchez, who said WBC/WBA/IBO/IBF middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs) would have gladly fought IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale (23-1, 14KOs) on September 10th.
Brook is a bigger name in Britain than DeGale. No doubt Hearn was aware of this which is why he offered Brook the fight.Comment

Would've. That's all I keep hearing.I'm pretty sure DeGale's was in advanced negotiations with Jack at that time. Regardless Hearn never offered the DeGale fight to GGG (source) :

I'm also extremely confident DeGale was bigger in the UK. Olympic exposure and all that.Comment

Lol are you really trying to blame GGG for opponents ducking him. Canelo, Saunders and Eubank all ducked in this time-frame.
And DeGale isn't a bigger name in the UK. He had 1 big fight in the UK his other big fights have been outside of the UK. The 2 biggest names in the Matchroom stable are Brook and JoshuaComment

but you think there is some historical significance in Andrade, Charlo x 2, or Lara? Or Degale, Jack, or Ramirez? I doubt on a "historical" level those names carry anymore weight than Geale or Lemieux. The issue is one of legacy. I've never felt that any boxer owed it to anyone to change weight if he didn't want to. However, if Golovkin wants a legacy befitting of his talents, he's gotta go outside of this weak division.
We still talk about Haggler because he had Hearns, Leonard, Duran, etc, etc. He was part of history. Do you think people are going to remember who the fuq Lemieux, Geale, or even Saunders and Jacobs were? If he's a small middleweight (as many claim) 154 is loaded with talent. If that's not possible, conquering 168 is impressive and he may be able to catch weight some of the quality LHWs.
Like I said, I don't think he's obligated to. But, if fans want him to be remembered, he's gotta go seek that greatness because he didn't find it beating Rubio, Wade, etc.
As for "legacy", i've never heard GGG even mention that in any interview i've ever heard. All I hear the guy say again and again is that he wants to unify 160, but is open to "big" fights at 168 if he cant get the unifications.Comment

You serious? Absolutely! Andrade, Williams, Canelo, and the Charlos are going places, maybe not all of them, but 154 is quickly turning into the best division in boxing (just give it a year to ripen) and some of those names will carry on into the future. Lara is known for being a big challenge, hell he's Canelo's best win.but you think there is some historical significance in Andrade, Charlo x 2, or Lara? Or Degale, Jack, or Ramirez? Regarding 168, Jack, Degale, and Ramirez are more meaningful than anyone at 160 right now.
Yes, as far as GG goes, I think he's just coasting toward retirement and isn't concerned about the legacy factor. Since fans are obsessed with this and think these guys are superheroes though, legacy is always a relevant topic worth discussing.Comment

I don't even know if Marvin is 5 9, he looks the same height as Roberto Duran. He is just a small man at MW. I mean Marvin can't even make 175 now, how was he supposed to move up if he can't hit 170. GGG is 173 on fight night.Completely different scenarios Hopkins stands 6"1 and performed extraordinary feats(running six miles a day) just to keep himself at middle as long as he did. Hagler conversely, stood a fortuitous 5"9 and was only marginally larger than Leonard when they met at the end of his career.Comment

Frampton, Quigg and Santa Cruz all moved up to 126 to avoid Rigo when he is the champ. Now he will go to 126 and they will fight him at this weight when he is not the champ? Rigo is the same size as Chocolatico.A better question is how come the same ones demanding ggg move up are the same guys who praise rigondeuax and say 126 pounds is too big a jump for the 122 pound boxer who is inactive and fights journey man, yet brag how he beat guys bigger than him in the ring, they still say he is p4p top three why do he get a pass lol
Rigo has half the fights and a better resume than GGG, and he is always the smaller, older guy in the ring. Rigo is a legend, GGG hasn't proven anything yet.Comment

The problem is that 168 is a a weak division. He has no reason to move up, his legacy would be better staying at MW becoming the undisputed champ and chasing Canelo, jacobs, etc the opponents at 168 are not legacy defining. The issue is one of legacy.
