I understand what youre saying about a GGG fight being worth more than a Quillen fight. But I'm not sure how much more revenue it would bring in vs how much more Golovkin should get paid than Quilllen. But lets look at GGG-Lemieux. David got $1.5M. They had to put it on PPV, and barely broke even (or even lost money if you believe the rumored 97k figure.) GGG isnt a cash cow with a ready-made fanbase. I dont want to see Jacobs get shortchanged and at the same time, dont want Golovkin to have to fight for peanuts either.
Honestly, I dont think Saunders wants any part of GGG at any time, any place, for almost any amount. There were rumors the figure was over $3M, which Saunders disputed months later. Golovkin said he was willing to come to UK, evidenced by his next fight. I think Saunders didn't want either more money or come to UK, but rather more money and come to UK.
From what I understand, Matchroom is taking the lead in promotion in the UK, which only makes sense. It would be like you and I fighting in your back yard. It wouldnt make sense for me to come and try to promote the fight in your neighborhood; you know everyone in town and Im just a stranger. I read where Hearn said something like "all we have to do is pay Gennady...", making me think it was Hearn that came up with the figures. Why a GGG-Saunders fight couldn't generate the same revenue is a question for Frank Warren.
I hope the fight does well financially. It sold out in minutes, and hopefully the PPV numbers are good as well. Hopefully Saunders sees that there is good money to be made in a GGG fight and we can have the final unification at MW. That is, if Billy doesnt fight Canelo and lose the belt first
