i take that back, i got it covered starting from 1989. just havent updated the most recent years.

so ring magazine's official p4p top 10 list started 89? i thought it was around mid 80s...
    Correct. 89.

Between 1980-89 KO Magazine had a P4P list people followed.

Any other time in history a champion in his early 20s would be considered prime but not when Mayweather fights them lol. Benitiez was 21 when he faced Leonard, Hearns was 22, Tyson was 22 when he beat Spinks, Ali was 22 when he beat Liston and list goes on and on. But Mayweather beats 22/23 year old Canelo and that doesn't count?
It definitely counts to anyone that's not holding a bias.

But there's no way Canelo was Top 3 P4P.

Corrales would be the best example for Floyd, who was #5 P4P.

        Roy jones vs tarver 2

The absolute worst thing I have ever seen happen to a top p4p guy.. Can't recall another time when someone of Roy's caliber got iced in 2.

And Tarver wasn't that good.. Besides buster, everyone else on the poll fought a legit ATG

          That's a good point.

But Pavlik wasn't prime at 170 nor was he P4P Top 3.

He was pretty close, still considered #1 or 1A. Probably at the same stage as pernell and Chavez

If not roy, then I gotta say tyson.. He got beat up and knocked out by a journeymen.

Everyone else at least went to decision and were facing a top p4p guy

Definitely nowhere near prime. Was a couple years removed from it, maybe more. Before the KO he labored to a hard majority points win over Tarver. Was still rated p4p (Like Whitaker before Oscar) but he was not the same fighter and it showed.

I will never believe roy was shot heading into the Tarver fights..

He was coming off one of his greatest performances vs ruiz, and hey we was probably alittle drained heading into tarver 1, but the rematch he was fine. He just got caught and iced by a good puncher who had his number.

Regardless, I do agree that it was Roy's peak, but he was still amazing and have been on a streak destroying guys like woods, gonazalez, and ruiz before he ran into tarver..
If you're going to use chavez-pernell, I don't see why you can't use roy
