The Penalty For Being Too Good (Rigondeaux, Golovkin, Ward)

As for Abel Sanchez running his mouth, that is what started the Ward vs GGG think to begin with so it does "matter". When Ward straighten out his Promotional issues and came back, the same people who was trashing him when he was way turn into the Victims when h starting replying back to them
Again fans and their Double Standard for guys they have a Male Crush on always have excuse for their guyComment

My opinions on the fighters you name here are as follows:
Ward ... he may be as good as you say he is, but, honestly, are you really saying that beating Froch and Kesslar at 168 5 years ago makes him the The Man right now?
I'm reserving my judgement till I see what he looks like against Barrera. And I still don't believe he will ever fight Kovalev. I don't think there will be enough money in that fight to tempt him into it.
Whatever, I think the best thing for GGG and for boxing as a whole is for him to stay at 160 and unify those belts. If he did that, believe me, I would to love to see him fight Ward afterwards.
Lara ... he isn't serious about wanting to fight GGG, and he would be crushed if it ever happened. I don't see him as any threat to Golovkin, not in the slightest.
Canelo ... he is refusing to fight a mandatory challenger, in his own division, without a catchweight, something that no world champion has ever done before.
His justification is that he isn't a MW. But, apparently, he still wants to keep hold of the WBC MW title and walk around calling himself the lineal MW champion of the world.
Fuck that. No way!
Rigo ... never been a fan of his, but he's Frampton's mandatory challenger with the WBA now, and I posted a comment earlier today saying that if Carl drops the WBA belt to avoid fighting Rigo he will shame the tradition of the fighting Irish. And I'm an Irish Brit myself.
Edit: If I was an Irish Mexican, I'd be even more ashamed of Canelo!Comment

of course i want to see the fight between Canelo and GGG but only if i know that we will see GGG at 100% or close to it. If a Dawson equivalent version of GGG comes into the fight then it will not really be good for GGG, his fans or even the fight itself.
If the GGG doesn't take the fight based on principal alone because he wants the fight to be done at 160 due to the belt then well it sucks for us. If GGG isn't taking the fight becasue he things he will be a shell of himself then he shouldn't take it and just get that damn belt and unify the final one and move up to do bigger and better things.
That being said, I don't think the WBC will force Canelo hand at all, he will be "ALLOWED" to do what he wants because with Canelo as their Champion that = More Money because he generates way more than GGG does so I think fans are kidding themselves by thinking "The WBC Will Make Canelo Fight GGG In September"Last edited by sicko; 03-03-2016, 06:57 PM.Comment

Clearly that don't matter because GGG is the one waiting to be chosen as Canelo's opponent.

And there is no "Ward vs GGG thing". Outside of this forum, out in the real world, it doesn't matter a damn to anybody.Comment

Golovkin's plan is to collect all the belts at 160. If he can get Canelo into the ring to fight him for the WBC and lineal, that will be even better, but the belts and unifying the division are his main objectives.Comment

For all of you with short attention spans, I bolded my main points.
In 2004, 3 star Olympians emerged and had the world of boxing heavily anticipating their next moves:
Guillermo Rigondeaux (2X gold medalist)
Gennady Golovkin (Silver medalist)
Andre Ward (Gold Medalist)
Rigondeaux hit the fast track. Won a title in 9 fights, unified titles/lineal champion in 11 and defeated a top 5 pound for pound future hall of famer.
Golovkin wasn't so lucky. Made some bad business moves early in his career and didn't hit the ground running until later. Still was able to unify titles and clean out much of his division.
Ward like Rigo also got off to an excellent start. Was fortunate enough to have a tournament that forced the top guys to fight each other and came out on top. His problem, after beating Froch, Kessler, Bika and Abraham, there was no one left for him to fight. (lol @ Boo-Tay)
So in summary, Rigo, Golovkin and Ward did damage in their divisions, unified titles and became the man to beat in their division. So what's the problem?
------------------
Rigondeaux, Golovkin and Ward are too good. Head and shoulders above anybody that walked through their divisions. Usually when you have a fighter head and shoulders above everybody in his division, everybody wants to fight him. But by fighting Mayweather, Pacquiao and Wlad, you got mega paydays. By fighting Rigo, Golovkin and Ward, you get an ass kicking, look silly and leave with a couple hundred grand. Who wants to do that?
So what happens? All of these "inferior contenders": The Santa Cruz's, Frampton's, Quigg's, Avalos', Sturms, N'Dam's, etc. avoid fighting the best guy in the division because:
1. They can't win because they aren't good enough and,
2. They can get bigger paydays taking easier fights
That's all there is to it. If you believe you can knock off the top dog, you fight him. Donaire fought Rigo because he knew he could win. Canelo fought Lara because he knew he could win. These guys were way bigger stars and way more accomplished than the divas you see today.
So my question is:
Why do we want to see this fights in the first place?
Frampton/Quigg/Avalos/Santa Cruz can't beat Rigondeaux
Jacobs/Quillin/Sturm/N'Dam/Martinez/Cotto can't beat Golovkin
It's a waste of time. That's why.....
Golovkin and Rigo need to take the Andre Ward route, take matters into their own hands and find the big fights themselves. Great fighters need to lure in the competition by making themselves more vulnerable and giving concessions.
That's just the price great fighters have to pay. The Penalty for Being Too Good.
It is all about the money and what the potential opponent can bring to the table. If a guy can get big paydays and fight bums forever, he will do it. Legacy is something I think the fans care a lot more about than the fighters.
Hopefully these guys get some big fights soon.Comment
