I think it would have been slightly more noticeable if 7 and a half thousand people walked out the arena

Ironically, I was talking about this the other day to someone about the fact people left the arena and he said that it wasn't true. I guess if Larry Merchant says it people believe it, because I did.

That's neither here nor there though really.

You hear legendary trainers like Cus D'Amato says that it wasn't just enough to be a great boxer, you had to be exciting one, you had to throw punches with bad intentions too. Mayweather's genius lay in the fact that he convinced people that he had no duty to entertain, the real excitement lay in whether he would keep his "0" or not. And when he invariably stunk it up (and that awful, fearful performance against Pac just sorta sums things up), his fans would lay the blame on his opponents for not making Floyd less boring

You can talk about the beauty and gracefulness of his talent. And no doubt, he was a unique, brilliant talent. But so many of his fights were migraine-inducing - a guy cynically playing the system, knowing all the looks and moves to win enough rounds without taking any risks, fighting with very little passion. The last 3 performances of his career were utterly dire.
It is quite funny that the highest PPV seller ever is what your average fan considers boring. And not your general "exciting" style. Probably the only time i can think of in history where a fighter with no killer instinct what so ever (post 2009) sold the most PPV's ever.

But that's the thing with Floyd it's his character that sells not his fighting. And obviously the fact he's an arrogant little **** that everyone wants to see get humbled but no ones seemingly good enough to do it. Hate him or love him the way he marketed himself was phenomenal.

          It's a great visual.

People were leaving from this ****ty fight by the tenth round. You know what's even worse? Of all the people that left, I think the commentators pointed out that Winky Wright walked out of this snore fest before the ordeal was over.
I remember that. ^^^ It wasn't thousands but it was considerable from all accounts.

I find excessive clinching and sidestepping around the outskirts of the ring very exciting. Floyd TBE #1

                  Mayweather is like Rigondeuax.

I mean if you put in front on him a top level fighter you will fet the finest skills in the world of boxing in my opinion.

For instance: Mayweather vs. Cotto || Rigondeaux vs. Donaire.

Two great fights becaue the opposition level was top.

                    Oh, there's plenty.

And anybody who was either: a) around at that time or b) not playing dumb by adding ridiculous conditionals to obvious examples, would know this.

                    Clearly.

You gave me everything except an answer to the question. De La Hoya was a dead man against Manny, doesn't mean the beatdown wasn't exciting to watch. I get it, you absolutely hate Floyd Mayweather as a Man and Pugilist, but be a damn boxing fan for once dude. The guy was one of the most incrediblty gifted fighters weve ever seen in our lifetimes and in the first half of his career he gave us exciting fights. That's a fact whether you choose to admit it or not.
