Belts = Money? How's that working for Chocalatito? How's that working for Kell Brook? Tickets and PPVs = Money. Cotto got stripped, but he made A LOT of money! I'm just sayin'Comment

it's not fanboyism for Canelo, it's hate against GGG really what causes it.its sad how fans who bashed catchweigths for years and even cried that canelo lost to floyd at 152 are now defending canelo for fighting at 155 over and over. why does he have fans? i don't get it. after he drops the belt and ducks ggg they will still defend him. the essence of being a fanboy.
Why?
GGG claimed he'd fight anyone from 154 to 168.
Then suddenly he wont fight Ward at 168, he'll fight him at 164.
And then, he won't fight Canelo at 155, only at 160, even though Canelo won't budge and it's the biggest payday for Golovkin. They're obviously too much afraid of GOlovkin losing that 0.Comment

I don't see it like that because history always favors the winners regardless of opposition. If he was to retire as "the unified undefeated 160lbs fighter" history would look kindly on Golovkin because that's how it always is. It might not sit well with hardcore fans but for the casual fan and Golovkin it wont matter. If they strip Canelo, what does that do for GGG's legacy and his pockets? So you think it's OK to say "I'm the best, I beat Lemieux, Wade, and Billy Joe Saunders!" If I'm GGG, I would rather say "I'm the best, I beat Canelo, Lara, and Andre Ward!" That's just me! The man is 34, time is not on his side.
I think that K2 and GGGs plan is to unify the division so they become the door every boxer has to come knock on which would be very good leverage for them. If this is truly their plan then its a very good strategy, the turtle wins the race type of strategy.
Also, I really doubt GGG fighting Lara would do much for his legacy. Honestly Lara is a good fighter but he has a self-destructing style. FMJ, Sweet Pea, Sugar Ray were defensive wizards but Lara's style is truly a runner's style. I personally think GGG would beat Lara handily. I do wish the Ward fight did happen though but its out of the question now that Ward is LHW but you never know.
If you look at Canelo's history I think its safe to say that him and GGG will fight. Canelo has a fighter's ego which is good because he has stepped up to challenges he didn't necessarily have to. I for one am looking forward to it!Comment

How would he lose out multiple big money fights over the next 2/3 years? You don't think he can beat Canelo at 155 or what?Comment

Yes. What it says is that Canelo thinks he'll get his ass handed to him if he fights GGG and that he, as always, prefers to fight much smaller guys. Imagine if Kahn wins....will we see Kahn vs. Mayweather for the lineal MW title at 147?
Either way, Canelo's reign as MW champ ends by the fall of this year, whether he loses to Kahn, or is forced to fight or vacate by GGG. Golovkin's quite comfy at MW and looks like he could stay there for the rest of his career if he chooses. So, Canelo can go about his business the next several years making big $$$ fights without a title in his own private weight class.Comment

Unfortunately, there appear to be too many guys at the top of the division who are okay with being worthless in your eyes. And true, individual titles are not worth much in a fractured division. But a unified champion is worth quite a bit though as the whole is much greater than the sum of its parts in this case. If GGG unifies, what are the rest of the MWs going to do -- avoid becoming top contenders so they won't become mandatories?ggg lara should have been ggg's first ppv not lemule...now they ruined his star possibly..lara was a more asked for fight..no matter wat it would have done u have to agree that they went away from demand in order to chase a worthless title that lemule had...and yes i called the title worthless..GGG is the champ of that division and until u beat him u are worthless..simple as that to me..i dont need a strap to validate boxing
As for Lara, I'll believe he really wants the GGG fight when he either steps in the ring with another MW like Jacobs or shows up at a GGG press conference and gets in his face like he did with Canelo. Tweets just don't do it for me.
Lemieux on PPV was a litmus test. They obviously have more work to do. It didn't hurt Golovkin one bit and it was the only way they could pay to get Lemieux in the ring. At least there was a title on the line. And who knows what the negotiations with Golden Boy were with the Cotto/Canelo fight also in play. As for Lara, he spent the entire fight on his bike in his only PPV performance and has fought 2 stiffs in his most recent fights. How many people who shelled out $ for the Canelo/Lara fight actually think they got their money's worth? There's very little incentive for HBO to green light that fight especially on PPV. No PPV means not enough money to pay Lara, who's gotten over a million to fight Rodriguez and Zaveck. As much as I'd like to see it happen, Lara needs to bring something more than a handful of fans who think he can beat/legitimize GGG to the table if he wants the fight. Beating Jacobs at MW would do it. Why's he not begging for the fight?Comment

GGG appears to be fine waiting it out. He's got a mandatory to take care of and another belt to go after. If anything, the longer they wait, the more leverage they will have. Unless, you believe the contract with the WBC won't be binding. Either way they'll get the belt. If they choose to go to a catchweight for it, that is THEIR choice. I highly doubt GGG will put his MW belts on the line at 155. I'd strip Canelo and wait him out. If he's content to fight titleless in his own private division as long as GGG reigns at MW then fine. He will only embarrass himself. GGG can make plenty of $$$ defending all his belts over the next 3 or 4 years.GGG and K2 have no leverage. If they wanted the belt so bad they wouldn't have agreed to step aside money from Cotto and to allow Canelo to have a tune up fight. The fact that Canelo is fighting Khan at 155 tells you all you need to know. If the fight with GGG was going to happen at 160 Canelo current fight would be at that weight.
GGG wants the belt but more importantly the pay day that a Canelo fight will bring. GGG is entering his mid thirties and this may be his last chance at a big money fight. Canelo will take the fight on his terms only, if GGG doesn't want it that way he can strip Canelo and pick up the belt from another nobody. Floyd fought at Oscar's preffered weight, Canelo fought at Floyd's catchweight, and Hopkins fought at Oscars preferred weight.
If GGG really is that much better than Canelo than he should truly embarrass him and beat him at his own game.Comment

History will say, unlike the other greats of the past, GGG turned down an offer to fight Canelo Alvarez, who was the hottest star in the game when the offer was made. Canelo has already fought Mayweather and Cotto, and he's only 25.Yes. What it says is that Canelo thinks he'll get his ass handed to him if he fights GGG and that he, as always, prefers to fight much smaller guys. Why would they have to knock on GGG's door? Is that one belt going to change much? If I can get $500K - $1mil more by fighting Canelo @ 155, why would I fight GGG? Do you think Jacobs would turn down a chance at Canelo? How about Quillen? How about Billy Joe Saunders or Chris Eubank Jr? How about Andy Lee? I don't think any of the Top SWW or MW would turn down a chance to fight Canelo. That's why B-Hop accepted Oscar's demands. That's why Mayweather accepted Oscar's demands. That's why Cotto accepted Pacquiao's demands. Money Talks!I don't see it like that because history always favors the winners regardless of opposition.
