Comments Thread For: Loeffler: We Expect Canelo To Defend Against Golovkin

The stage is now set for Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin to have their interim bouts before a potential showdown in the fall.

Canelo (46-1-1, 32KOs) will return on May 7th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, as headliner of an HBO Pay-Per-View, when he defends his WBC middleweight title against Amir Khan, who moves up to a catch-weight of 155-pounds.

Canelo isn't moving off that 155. The fight with Khan pretty much proves it. I hope they have a plan B ready after they strip him.

Plan B doesn't come into it....what comes into it is regaining the middlweight belt and defending that middlweight belt against legitimate 160lb Fighters...not laying seige to a middlweight belt and trying to defend it against 155 or less fighters....canelo will be stripped if he don't defend against golovkin and that's that.....I am more concerned in getting the middlweight championship back in its rightful place....plan b will then come into place....if u seriously love boxing and your happy with what canelo is trying to do..I suggest you go find another sport ....all this 155 crap is no good

its sad how fans who bashed catchweigths for years and even cried that canelo lost to floyd at 152 are now defending canelo for fighting at 155 over and over. why does he have fans? i don't get it. after he drops the belt and ducks ggg they will still defend him. the essence of being a fanboy.

I also expect Canelo to defend against GGG...at 155lbs. The financial rewards are too great for GGG to turn down this fight. Then again, GGG's concern is unifying the belts, and not the money.

Every single time Golovkin has had an opportunity to "get the middleweight championship back in it's rightful place" he's negotiated a way out of getting the belt. It takes two to tangle and Golovkin has danced with two partners instead of taking the belt.

I think it's because the fans have had to watch Cotto drop to 145 to fight Pacquiao, and De La Hoya drop to 147 to fight Pacquiao, and Canelo drop to 152 to fight Mayweather, and B-Hop drop to fight De La Hoya, etc., etc. The catch-weight fight is not new to the game, so fans expect GGG to do what other great champions have done in the past. At this point GGG can stick by his "principles", or he can go get some "commas." He can go down to get 'em, or go up to get 'em, but he's not in the position to make demands where he sits at the current time.
