All criticism of Haymon in this thread is valid. I support PBC but what is the last meaningful matchup they put on broadcast or cable TV? They have deals with CBS, NBC, ESPN, FOX, Spike, and Bounce, and the last really meaningful fight on one of those channels was Santa Cruz-Mares all the way back in August. I'm just getting fed up with this marination process. Same BS as every other promoter/network.

Now even when they do make a decent matchup (DeGale-Bute, Jacobs-Quillin, Wilder-Szpilka) they put it on a premium channel and no one watches it. Hard to figure it out, really.

Boxing has never operated like this, were now seeing that once you take the promoters incentive away, there's no one left to promote.

Lou Dibella who promotes for Haymon operated like this for years when he had a decent sized stable of his own fighters. He would take the network money, pocket as much of it as he could and spend no $ actually promoting the events.

Now he just takes Haymons $ instead.
Exactly. You got 3rd rate promoters who are not as good as the best promoters in the game. So you went from Golden Boy the best to now weak promoters. And these promoters don't have ANY of the fighters under contract and have NO GUARANTEE that they will promote that fighters next fight. So why are they going to go the extra mile and use up resources to promote the fight when they already been paid a flat fee and got their money whether the show does well or bad? Golden Boy or any top promoter who has those fighters under contract and has a direct stake in them doing well and the show doing well will obviously do a far better job promoting an event. Haymon thought just slapping a cheap PBC logo meant he could hire anyone to be a promoter on paper and fans will still show up.

That's the funny thing though, these aren't even big fights that they "marinate".

Quillin vs Jacobs was passed off as a big fight in the making. It was a god match up, but marinating it did nothing for its hype.

        Same thing with Thurmam/Porter.

These guys aren't fcking Floyd/Pac, this isn't remotely a big fight.

From day one I said that all this network and time slot hopping around would kill any momentum that PBC was trying to build. If you want a consistent following you need to be consistent. Having cards on a plethora of networks on different dates and different time slots will not work or help build a loyal following. For as smart as Haymon is you would think he would know this.

You were just trying to spin about how big sports caused HBO numbers to be down on another yhread and yet here you are not using that same logic to an even bigger game being on at the same time.

Haha!! You are such a little girl

What build up? These guys are just fighting bums, and after having lost most of their steam are put together in a fight that honestly, at that point who really cares?

The ONLY, PBC/Haymon fight I've been hyped for is Thurman-Porter. Probably because these guys have fought more credible opponents in the road leading to up to this.

I honestly don't care if PBC goes belly up. Makes no difference to me. You'll never see me in a thread big upping PBC or wishing for it's demise. I'll leave that up to you.

I'm pointing out that the card was up against a NFL playoff game on primetime network TV.

Boxing isn't built for that, regardless of who carries out the promotion, or who is fighting.

No single entity has a deep enough stable to not marinate fights though. Let's look at Haymon's welterweights. What if this happened this year:

                    Winter:
                    Thurman/Porter
                    Garcia/Guerrero

                    Spring:
                    Peterson/Berto
                    Spence/Vazquez

                    Summer:
                    Garcia/Khan
                    Spence/Peterson

                    Fall:
                    Garcia/Thurman

                    2017: Spence/Thurman

He would run through his entire roster in a little over a year and most of the fights would flop because none of those guys have fanbases. That's why marination is necessary in a lot of cases.

I think that is kind of a weak number especially since Dish network offered a free preview weekend for Showtime this past weekend.
