Another very good point, I never really thought of.
These promoters Haymon uses are getting flat fee's to put on Haymons events.
There is NO incentive for them to do a good job, there is no incentive for them to build the fighters up, and there is no incentive to spend extra money to build up a better event.
Boxing has never operated like this, were now seeing that once you take the promoters incentive away.
Lou Dibella who promotes for Haymon operated like this for years when he had a decent sized stable of his own fighters. He would take the network money, pocket as much of it as he could and spend no $ actually promoting the events.
Would be interested in the #s for the youtube stream. The card averaging 500k is about what was expected after Jacobs pulled 300k. HWs are generally more popular.
Al Haymon delivering crappy ratings wherever he goes.
This nonsense is will end eventually, I just hope he doesn't destroy the sport to the point of no return. If you can't turn Wilder into a star, than WTF are you good for?
He's nothing without Floyd.
That's what I've been saying. The networks would kiss his ass to lure Floyd. Haymon would then capitalize on it by putting in his stable fighters in a lot of mismatches. Haymon's power is going to shit now that he doesn't have Floyd.
Dude the Haymon hate is just outta control. It was the Packers-Cardinals game there guys
Pick any Showtime card you want for last year. All were bad. Broner on showtime did what 500K viewers back in Oct (so it didn't go head to head with ANY NFL games). He was pulling in 1mil viewers to fight a bum in Taylor JUST 1 YEAR EARLIER on Showtime when Golden Boy was promoting him. Goes to PBC for 2 fights comes back to Showtime does HALF what he normally did on Showtime.
I was switching back and forth between Pack-Cards and SHO.
It was a free SHO weekend as well.
Damn, that makes it even worse! Free Showtime weekend and that was all they were able to grab?
I was watching GB/AZ on double tune, game on one tuner and fight on the other. I paused the game and proceeded to watch the fight. Then right after, switched back to watch the game go into OT. Great night of sports.
It doesn't help when they build up fights on the PBC channels and then put them on Showtime. Jacobs/Quillin 100% should have been on NBC, and it's ridiculous that it wasn't.
It was originally announced to air on NBC. But when you pay Jacobs and Quillin 1mil each to fight bums on PBC and now they want more money to fight each other despite neither being able to generate TV viewers or draw fans to the arena so PBC could not afford to pay 1.5mil each. That's why Haymon passed this off to showtime to foot the bill instead of it losing countless millions if they aired it on PBC. The real question is how long will Showtime pay big money for fighters that don't draw ratings? And how does Espinoza still have a job at Showtime after he allowed Haymon to run them into the ground and he has ZERO contracts with any of these fighters. Haymon can take them all away whenever he feels like it.
I find it hilarious that when there's an obvious reason for the ratings, everyone uses it as an excuse to launch into anti-Haymon tirades.
Just unsreal..
It was a free Showtime weekend and pretty much everybody with a TV these days has a DVR box. People could have recorded the fight and watched football, and it still would have counted towards the ratings.
