Check the numbers since the Golden Boy split from Haymon and PBC launch. It's a scary trend Showtime is pulling 40-50% across the board for all boxing programming since then. The problem is 2 fold. Showtime got a massive boost in ratings when they aligned themselves with Golden Boy. Now you have 3rd rate promoters working for Haymon who aren't as good of promoters as Golden Boy was. Second you have fans not knowing what network these fighters will appear on. Huge reason for Showtimes success and HBO's is they build stars and you know every time they fight it will be on Showtime/HBO. Well now if you like a fighter you have no clue if he will fight on NBC, ESPN, Spike, FS1, Showtime ect. It's bad business for Showtime who spent years building a fighter and then lose him to other networks. Hell after the first half of PBC's launch Showtime basically had zero boxing content over night. I know friends who subscribed to Showtime just because of the influx of top fighters when Golden Boy jumped from HBO to Showtime. And when all those fighters like Thurman, Garcia, Broner, Porter, ect were fighting on PBC a lot of boxing fans dropped Showtime from their cable package. Also a ton of the negativity Haymon and PBC are getting for the quality of their fights or lack there of has rubbed off on Showtime.
Showtime is now in real shambles for letting Haymon hijack that channel and screwed them over. Haymon fighters are only now going back to Showtime because these PBC shows are tanking in ratings and losing millions so Haymon is throwing them back to Showtime so PBC investors are not paying their purses for fights that lose money. But clearly a lot of damage has been done to the Showtime brand.
