But on HBO PPV, for the US audience, GGG vs Lara would sink like a stone.
And it wouldn't be a great match-up. No way would Lara be competitive vs Golovkin, and most knowledgable boxing fans would know that.Last edited by kafkod; 01-19-2016, 10:55 AM.

As for Lara's competitiveness, I agree. I think his style fits GGG perfectly. That said, I didn't think Lemieux would be competitive. Don't think BJS will be competitive. Don't think Jacobs will be competitive. So that's irrelevant to why GGG should or shouldn't fight him. Lara is a better fighter than anyone currently on Gennady's radar outside of Canelo, depending on who you ask. So why not chase the best available scalp? Isn't that what great fighters do? Maybe its time for GGG to go to Plan B. Because Plan A, chasing B class paper beltholders has been an epic fail so far.

Whatever, if GGG can't get Saunders he is going to have to fight Johnson next, or be stripped of his IBF title.
I know you won't think that matters, but it matters to K2 and Golovkin.

"On PBC on Spike Erislandy Lara vs. Delvin Rodriguez was seen by an average of only 446,000 viewers. That is an abject failure for a combat event broadcast on Spike TV. Lara has never been of interest to casual fans."

What boxing fans should want is the power punchers of this era to learn how to cut off the ring like power punchers from previous eras so we can get a great stylistic matchup.
What HBO and fans of the guys the have under contract want is opponents for their favorites that have no chance to win and will likely get KTFO.
What does continually beating opponents like that accomplish?

As for casual fans not caring about Lara. Casual fans don't care about GGG either. So that's kinda moot to the discussion.
