Comments Thread For: Golovkin's Promoter on Saunders Fallout, Canelo is Top Fall Target

Recently K2 Promotions - on behalf of WBA/IBF/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31KOs) - made an offer to face WBO belt-holder Billy Joe Saunders (23-0, 12KOs) in a unification on April 23rd. The offer was said to be a deal in excess of $3 million but it seems as though Saunders and his promoter, Frank Warren, have other plans for the spring.

      Fallout?

The plan was never for BJS to get in the ring with GGG in the first place because he and his team have made that quite clear from the beginning that's not what they want. What we have is at least one month of waisted negotiations.

BJS has clearly said that he'd need at least 18 months before he's ready for a fight with GG and that he was essentially scared of him. Why even waist your time trying to negotiate with BJS when you have someone like Jacobs who is more of a threat and is only asking for fair money. I'm sure he'll take the same offer given to Saunders in a heartbeat.

THe way things are looking is the Canelo-GG showdown will be a letdown this fall as well due to the weight issues.

Loefler says he's neutral with PBC/Haymon, but just needs to talk to HBO. Well, why not get the talking?

#1 MW vs #2 MW, I'm all for it until I hear otherwisre from Team GGG and Team Jacobs. So far, I've heard Team Jacobs stance on what their requests are but nothing from Loefler and Golovkin.

Team Jacobs asks for a 50/50 split, but given their fight with Quillin didn't do so well, I can see a 60-40 split in favor of Golovkin because his fight with DL had more butts in seats. Other than that, everything should be at least negotiated. But Golovkin and Co. act like Jacobs doesn't exist.

It's ok Tom..... Erislandy Lara has just moved to 160, and he will be more than happy to " fill in " for Canelo and Saunders, while you wait.

What was that Tom?..... oh, there is no money whatsoever for that fight?

But what happened to the 3mil that you were willing to pay the relatively unknown Brit, BJ Saunders?..... because Lara will fight Golovkin for a fraction of that?

What was that Tom, I should go " what " myself?

BJS holds the WBO middleweight title. Lara holds the IBO super welter belt. So if Lara fights at MW there is no belt to gain for GGG. Im assuming that is/was the logic.

I keep on hearing "it was said" and "it was reported" when talking about about that $3M purse. I call complete BS on that figure. How about people stop regurgitating that number and get an actual legit source?

Saunders has a real belt, and people expected him to man up when he got offered over 3 million for a GGG fight.

Jacobs only has that paper belt where GGG is already the recognized WBA champ. So how do you not understand that K2 went after BJS first?

Unification trumps a mandatory so GGG could have delayed the Tureano Johnson fight by fighting Saunders. Thats not possible by fighting Jacobs (thats no unification, because GGG is already the WBA champ and Jacobs just has that regular belt).

You probably remember how fast Fury got stripped by the very same IBF where Tureano Johnson is the #1 mandatory waiting for his chance at a title fight against GGG.
