If Canelo wants to fight GGG at 155lbs let him. As long as GGG can come into the ring at 160lbs or less. It's a middleweight title fight for the 160lb belt no catch weights just follow the rules. Simple solution or give up Canelo's belt. Why play games? seems girly and weak and wimpy. man up and defend the belt at the weight the belt was designed for. If Canelo isn't letting GGG come in at 160lbs it a no brainer just give the belt to GGG and move on. Boxing cannot let some Mexican dictate weights and play gimmick games with a title belt. Either fight at 160lbs and defend the belt or move off the boxing pot. Simple. DUH?

Hopkins had a middleweight title fight with Oscar at a catchweight. Sergio had a middleweight title fight with Cotto at a catchweight. Canelo had a Jr Middleweight title fight with Floyd at a catchweight. Cotto had a welterweight title fight with Manny at a catchweight. All titles fights contracted below the weight limit. Canelo is doing nothing new and just a few years ago he was on the other end of this. Canelo has NEVER said he is ready to fight at 160 and can vacate the belt and continue fighting Jr Middleweights and his fans will still support him. GGG is the idiot who already said he is willing to fight at 154 and can make that weight easily. Well if he wants that fight that is what he has to do.

Are you talking about GGG? Because he demanded a catchweight or as you said tried to resort to weight draining Ward to beat him the only difference is Canelo has NEVER said he will fight anyone at 160. GGG said he will fight anyone at 168 and then when he was called out backtracked with a catchweight. Hard to gain sympathy from fans when you did it to Ward.

Canelo is doing what every fighter does when they get to his level. He is the one bringing the fan base and the money so the fight will be on his terms. He had to make sacrifices to get the Floyd payday but it raised his profile and was worth it. If GGG wants the fight they come to him, and that gap will only get wider as time goes on. GGG would be wise to take the fight this fall and cave to Canelo's terms or he will be in his mid 30's without any significant wins and out of his physical prime.

No world champion in the history of boxing has EVER refused to fight his mandatory challenger without a CW.

Canelo's popularity will plummet if GGG has to get the WBC to strip him of their belt over this.

And who is he going to fight next who would bring him as much money as GGG?

Mark my words, if Canelo ducks GGG and Golovkin becomes the undisputed MW champ, by the time Canelo can no longer make 155 and has to start fighting at the real MW limit, he will be lucky to get 30% of the purse if comes back trying to fight Golovkin again.
