I find it difficult to pick any current heavyweight over Fury.

I think people are underestimating him because he doesn't make it look pretty and flashy but he's obviously doing a lot of things right in there. If someone can't see his ring IQ and how he took away everything Wlad does well, then boxing isn't for them. If you understand the little nuances of the sport then it's clear to see why Fury much better than he looks. As i say, it might not be pretty but its extremely effective.

A 100% Tyson Fury is going to make it difficult for anyone to even get in a position to get their shots off, like he did with Wlad. I like Luis Ortiz a lot but fighting Fury is completely different to fighting Jennings. It would be an interesting fight for sure but it's foolish to pick against Fury right now i think.

Also, Fury was no slouch as an amateur either. National champion and also European champion as a junior and was also ranked top 3 in the world in the juniors. Don't forget he was still young when he turned pro

Having said that Ortiz is being WAY over hyped by fans + HBO. He's turning 37 in a couple months & burning daylight on making something happen in the game. I believe he somehow got a #1 abc spot doe (how he did that with his resume, previous to Jennings, is proof of corruption more than incompetence) so he's getting his shot probably sometime in 2016, early 2017 most likely, but the reality is Jennings was his first elite level guy he beat & journeyman Zack Page is probably the 3rd best guy he's beaten.

As for the fight I see Fury having Cuban George Foreman throwing slightly more punches than Klitschko did & looking every bit his 37, 38 years, by the time they fight, while he's slogging around the ring before he gives an ode to Manny by saying "if Tyson had stayed still he woulda won" in the post-fight interview.
I agree with the bolded. I'm reserving judgment on Ortiz till I see more of him.

I like Jennings, but he has limited experience and his game plan for every fight is based on him being fitter, stronger and more athletic than his opponent.

That wasn't enough against Wlad or Ortiz, though for different reasons, of course.

Fury would not try to outgame and outpunch Ortiz, standing in front of him eating uppercuts, the way Jennings did.

Fury would move and make Ortiz move with him. Getting up on your toes, dancing and moving around the ring for 30 seconds every so often, when YOU feel like doing it, is one thing. Having to do that for 3 minutes every round, with a long, fast jab coming at your face - sometimes a left jab, sometimes a right jab - is another thing entirely.

Have you really watched both guys? Because your description of how the fight plays out doesn't reflect the way either guy fights. Ortiz is not an inside guy, or a puncher. Nor is Tyson a boxer who relies on his jab.

For a big guy, Ortiz moves very well. And considering the fact that he trained and fought with the flu, he showed some pretty good conditioning in the Jennings fight. Luis did a pretty good Ali impersonation throughout the fifth round of that same contest. Fury himself has called Ortiz "a dangerous ****." High praise from a guy that doesn't easily dish out compliments. And, by the way, an orthodox fighter throws left jabs and straight rights.

Excellent post. If they ever fight, it'll be interesting to see how Ortiz deals with Tyson's height and reach.

Fury is pretty masterful at using his size and using it for proper distance in the ring.

The dangerous part is Ortiz has a better chance of clocking him and getting the extension he needs on his punches.

Ortiz also has a peach of a right hook.

Fury will have to think and be defensively responsible to win this one.

Skillwise Ortiz is superior that is easy to see, but Fury is a weird ass fighter and it worked against Wlad.

It's up to Ortiz to call him on his awkward bull**** and wreck him if he can't then Fury would win. Ortiz hits way harder than the guys who have put Fury on his back, and has the technique to connect. Not to mention Ortiz works best at a distance which is where Fury likes to be unfortunately for him. The tittles right now are up for grabs thanks to Fury the savior of the heavyweight division he started a renaissance.

Tyson has a one inch reach advantage...that's it. Ortiz is so much more schooled and technical than Tyson...they are polar opposites. Tyson without his 6'9" frame has very little going for him. At 6'4" and 84" reach Ortiz has enough size and way more skills than Tyson. He has this calm confidence in the ring that comes from having mastered the game a long time ago. Tyson get's KO'd in this fight. I'd love for Tyson to take this fight but he won't go near Ortiz for some time.

I think Ortiz can beat any heavyweight fighting today.
