  • It's sad that so many so called boxing fans hate GGG so much that they are OK for Cotto to vacate.

If Cotto is the lineal Champ, then fight at 160, not a catch weight. Same for Canelo.

At the end of the day, they both fear GGG as GGG fears moving to 168.

I will laugh my ass off, when Cotto vacates.
I hope Cotto vacates the belt. I'm tired of disliking him because of holding the belt hostage. Truth is GGG is too big and too much for Cotto at this stage of his career. I don't want to possibly see Cotto get hurt badly at this point. Fight Canelo, make bank, move forward win or lose. Just don't deny a man of a shot who has earned it. The belt doesn't make Cotto at this point, so let GGG begin his rein.

I believe interim belts are just upgraded to full status without having to fight anyone.

Might as well just step aside without asking Cotto for anything. If Canelo wins, there's a bigger chance he'll fight him. If GGG just takes the belt with no step aside deal, Canelo won't have much obligation and pressure to face GGG. He'll have a new shinny belt, but who cares? Unifying two vacant belts won't do anything for GGG.

"ward too much too soon" too soon? GGG was already over 30 ffs

"the ward fight doesn't make financial sense".

Now say they didn't say that?

At the time of the Chavez Jr. negotiations, Ward was in court and not able to fight. This is also a fact you are aware of. I expect better from you.

Cotto should vacate the title BEFORE fighting Canelo if he does not intend to fight GGG after. Not that he will have the title after Canelo breaks him.
You are wasting your time Barcham. Guys like bigjavi cling to their "GGG ducking Ward" bull**** like a drowning man to a straw.

They know it isn't true, but it's the only thing they have.

And you are most definitely wasting your time talking about honour and fair play to a scum bag like him.

So it has to be ppv. No prob..... Oh wait how many ppvs GGG has had?

Court blah blah blah. GGG said ward too much too soon before ward was inactive if I remember correctly.

Is there any precedent for elite fighters taking each other to court?

Maybe there is, someone can enlighten me.

But anything can be put in a contract. I can't see either Cotto or Canelo signing any contract where the penalty clause would be as extreme as you make out and I can't see the WBC demanding they sign a contact like that. Best I can see for Golovkin is a million dollar + step aside fee and even that is unlikely as Cotto Canelo is bigger than any belt. I've said it before - we are all following some game that is 80% business and 20% sport - we rarely get to see elite fighters fight against each other in their prime which is a huge shame.

                That amount is ridiculous imo.

                • Just mentioned this on another thread but wouldnt that be insane if the WBC stripped Cotto for weighing in BELOW the divisional minimum(154+ - 160lbs)? I know fighters face consequences for weighing OVER, but shouldnt being below the divisional minimum be a safety concern? Obviously not in this instance, just generally speaking..

I guess ill have to look up the rules myself...thoughts anybody

So you saying GGG didn't say, "Ward too much, too soon"?

His team didn't state that the Ward fight doesn't make financial sense?
