Abel Sanchez verified this in an interview awhile back. He said they pretty much had to stop using Kovalev in sparring after their initial work, as "he was giving GGG too much respect" and was "fearful" of him. He "hurt Kovalev several times" in that sparring session.

It really doesn't matter as they are both great fighters and all around good guys outside the ring. Their fan bases have really grown the last 2 yrs.

Good to read a comment with some common sense. Don't take every word you hear so frigging serious. The sparring has been some time ago, both men have developed their skills and every fighter has a different training philosophy. Kovalev said GGG hits harder, so what? He is a humble guy and they are good friends and its hard for Kovalev to punch himself to compare the punches. Both are excellent warriors and likeable guys.

I swore I read somewhere on here that Kovalev took it easy on GGG in sparring and dirty Sanchez said that he didn't want Kovalev to potentially hurt GGG. If those two guys fought and Kovalev hit GGG with the same punches that Monroe did, yeah I don't see GGG still standing after a few rounds.

So Sanchez wasn't protecting GGG, it's quite the contrary.

Sounds like Kovalev adheres to the philosophy of "I don't get paid for gym wars".

Sanchez is going talk so much in the build up to this fight and then be stood looking foolish when Mohammedi is flat on his back.

Kovalev knocks Golovkin out in a fight at 175lbs imo.

But they did, in fact they say they are open to it right now but HBO do not approve of Lara because they're in the business of making entertaining fights.

That's why Loeffler was telling Lara to get himself a title, so that HBO would approve the bout.

Ward doesnt need to hit-and-hold to beat Golovkin, or anyone else for that matter. He is one of the most well-rounded fighters in the game today, if something doesnt work, he will adapt.

I think Ward is way better than you give him credit for.

It's 50-50 fight if he's not allowed to fight in a clinch. If he starts moving around, it actually favors Golovkin.

Power will not beat Ward, and folks are taking too much from the Hopkins fight.

The only way that Kovalev beats Ward is to beat him with skills, and I cant see that happening.

Hopkins was 50, he did not have to do anything, including fight Kovalev.

Hopkins thought that he could beat Kovalev, but he wasn't sure about Ward.

He did if he wanted to get paid before being stripped of his titles.

Ward can't beat Kovalev, his inside game won't work with a bigger guy who won't accept the clinch and he doesn't have the power at LHW or the punch resistance to fcuk with Kovalev from the outside.

Absolutely possible! In this case i doubt it though, Kovalev has freakish power but lets say both have real power. Do you think a guy Eddie Chambers, a heavyweight, hits harder than GGG? I doubt it.
