It really doesn't matter as they are both great fighters and all around good guys outside the ring. Their fan bases have really grown the last 2 yrs.
Take what Abel says with a grain of salt though, it's his job to hype up his fighters.

Kovalev's side of the story was that he didn't like getting into wars in the gym. He said why should I get into a war and take damage if I'm not getting paid for it? He also said he didn't want to spar GGG anymore because he knew the only way he could possibly keep Golovkin off him is if he hit Golovkin with everything he has and that again he didn't want to get into a war.

So it's probably a case of Golovkin being a beast in the gym and Kovalev isn't used to that, or simply doesn't want to, and didn't want to go hard. That caused a problem between him and Abel. Abel wants his guys going hard in sparring and Kovalev doesn't share that philosophy.

Good to read a comment with some common sense. Don't take every word you hear so frigging serious. The sparring has been some time ago, both men have developed their skills and every fighter has a different training philosophy. Kovalev said GGG hits harder, so what? He is a humble guy and they are good friends and its hard for Kovalev to punch himself to compare the punches. Both are excellent warriors and likeable guys.

It's a testament to Kovalev's power but also to BHop being an old man, and it was off a counter.

Actually Kovalev said Sanchez wanted them to go to war but Kovalev didn't wanna hurt GGG.

"I don’t want to spar the kid is because I’ve got to hurt him. He said Triple G’s a tough guy, I’ve got to hit him with everything I’ve got to keep him off me and that’s going to hurt him. We’re friends. He says then Abel tries to make it a war and that’s not what we’re in there for. ‘That’s why I refuse to spar with the kid. "

So Sanchez wasn't protecting GGG, it's quite the contrary.

Makes a lot of sense, thanks for passing that along.

Power is nothing without defense, technical ability and ring IQ that both these cats lack.

Thanks for that link; I hadn't seen it before, and it says a lot more than what I had found elsewhere.

Sounds like Kovalev adheres to the philosophy of "I don't get paid for gym wars".

Sanchez is going talk so much in the build up to this fight and then be stood looking foolish when Mohammedi is flat on his back.

Kovalev knocks Golovkin out in a fight at 175lbs imo.

But they did, in fact they say they are open to it right now but HBO do not approve of Lara because they're in the business of making entertaining fights.

That's why Loeffler was telling Lara to get himself a title, so that HBO would approve the bout.

I think Ward is way better than you give him credit for.
It's 50-50 fight if he's not allowed to fight in a clinch. If he starts moving around, it actually favors Golovkin.

Power will not beat Ward, and folks are taking too much from the Hopkins fight.

The only way that Kovalev beats Ward is to beat him with skills, and I cant see that happening.

Hopkins was 50, he did not have to do anything, including fight Kovalev.

Hopkins thought that he could beat Kovalev, but he wasn't sure about Ward.
He did if he wanted to get paid before being stripped of his titles.

Ward can't beat Kovalev, his inside game won't work with a bigger guy who won't accept the clinch and he doesn't have the power at LHW or the punch resistance to fcuk with Kovalev from the outside.

Absolutely possible! In this case i doubt it though, Kovalev has freakish power but lets say both have real power. Do you think a guy Eddie Chambers, a heavyweight, hits harder than GGG? I doubt it.
