I thought this was a decent comeback fight after a long break :/
HBO rejects Ward/Oosthuizen

That may be the case. Golovkin still drew just over 850k for the broadcast, regardless of how committed some folks seem to be in assuming two completely separate audiences watched the fight.Comment

How could that be his minimum, when the purse that he got for the Rodriguez fight ($1.9m according to what was reported) was his career-high?Comment

When you look at Ward's resume - he really has an inflated opinion of himself. His best win is Froch - that was closer than people remember and Froch was still steaming in while Ward was fading. He head butted Kessler out of there, beat a severely drained Dawson, and after that it's Bika, and Abraham.Yeah man I understand Ward wants and needs a tune up but ward needs to understand he gonna have to swallow his pride and take a L in the money and TV department. Whats that saying a small setback for a major comeback that exactly where hes at right now, and ward getting older to be pretending like he has all the time in the world, gotta start making moves.
He needs to fight. Froch should get him in Nottingham and put it on him from round 1, I really believe he'd get the job done, with the size of Ward's head it'd be hard to miss.
This fella is asking for $2M for a tuneup. He's a pain in the ass for promoters, a bore for fight fans, and simply does not like to fight. Cant't wait for Dirrell or DeGale or Kovalev to punch some sense into him.Comment

Funny how when I look on P4P lists he's not on them - must be because "keeping his face in front of HBO viewers" is not the same as getting in the ring and actually fighting and beating guys up.-He's beaten the Ring-ranked #10/#9 fights for most of those fights; with middlewight being as soft a division as it is, let's not hype it up like he's knocking off major guys.
-I haven't seen anything about what Ward is asking for the fight. (With RocNation in the fold, my guess is that Ward will be able to leverage far more revenue streams than just the TV rights fee and the gate for his full purse).
Andre Ward is the #2 p4p fighter on the planet, America's last boxing Olympic gold medalist, is a clean-cut guy who can talk, and has kept his face in front of HBO's viewers during the entire stretch that he was inactive. Sleep on his star power if you want.
He's not the #2 anything - this guy is a whiny fraud with an over inflated sense of self worth.
You were right about your last bit though, he does put guys to sleep, the tedious bore.Comment

not biased at all; I've got no idea what the Canelo average price would because the fight hasn't happened yet.
I point out the $10 tickets because, if the venue actually ends up with 40,000 people in the seats, 30,000-35,000 of those people will likely end up in seats that will be comped or seats that they paid $10 for.
If Ward was in the same situation (return fight at Oakland Coliseum, a promotional company backing him with money, a TV network that's utterly giddy with having him on the channel [with 24/7 likely in the cue already], and tickets starting at $10), he may not be able to get 40,000 people into the venue, but 20k-25k wouldn't be impossible to picture. If they push the comped tickets on the eve of the event, that number might even get to 30k.
hopefully the Tx folks disclose the number of tickets actually paid for and the gate, respectivelyComment

Gennady Golovkin (32 0 0 29) vs Willie Monroe Jr (19 1 0 6)
Monroe won the Boxcino Middleweight Tournament on ESPN last year. Still no match for GGG though! Ward just plain sucks! Won't leave Oakland to fight and he's about as exciting as watching paint dry on a warm humid Florida night! Ward needs to pull his panties up and go fight Froch in England for the biggest live gate of his career or stay retired cuz no one misses him and no one will, his style is just that ugly to watch! I watched him headbutt and hold his way to an ugly win against Kessler and never want to witness that crap ever again!Last edited by TheUndertaker; 03-20-2015, 09:25 PM.Comment
