Nah...Marquez doesn't "close down range". He steps back and invites YOU TO HIS RANGE, to where he can land his combinations and then change angles. Rinse and repeat. Marquez runs into trouble when his opponent gets in his chest and typically moves out of harms way.
Best inside game at 147?

He avoids it, he's not comfortable there.
If someone forces the fight he's constantly trying to create distance. That's his home.Comment

Marqeuz never forces the fight, he never try's to get onto the inside.
To say Marquez is better when he's closing a guy down as opposed to when he's at range is mind boggling.Comment

Not many do these days.
Back to your earlier point.
Not many fighters seen to have that skill.
I think Broner's inside game is decent.
I don't rate him highly but he does seen to have decent inside skills, looks very good inside against Demarco.
He's not overly good obviously but seems to have basic skills.Comment

Broner can throw short, crisp punches and has good hand speed at close range. His problem is that he can't transition from defense to offense like a Mayweather/Toney/Whitaker/Duran/Chavez, etc. Once you start throwing punches he stops and either backs out of harms way or shells up. Mayweather will roll counter, slip counter, etc.
Good observation.Comment

Matthysse usually starts off boxing, feeling his opponent out and ramps it up. He can do a bit of everything but I feel he is clearly a pressure fighter.
Depends how you access styles I guess. To me a pressure fighter is someone who comes forward, constantly making you work with regard for their defense.
A brawler pretty much the same with no regard for defense ala Brandon Rios.
As for the question above; John Molina, he did some beautiful work on the inside in that fight. Soto, Ajose Olusegun, Corley.Comment

Marquez needs room to operate. That is what makes him Marquez those half steps back so he can bring those trademark uppercuts and hooks into play which work beautifully against fighters who come forward.
I'd say he was probably a bit uncomfortable on the inside. From what I recall he was having big trouble when trapped on the ropes and Katsidis was on his chest, it wasn't until he created distance he got his shots off.Comment
