What I do get is that Canelo is being a fool and is not business minded. He's getting punched in the head for money. If he wants to throw away money for 2 fights rather than maximize his profits now as well as become the main draw in on year's time, well that proves what a numbskull he is. While he's at it, why not just go all out and throw the fight to regular HBO or telemundo or whatever. Give his fans a free treat.
Don't you get it you ****** pigheaded fool it's about improving numbers and Canelo will improve his ppv sales on those dates and those dates will bring his ppvs sales up. Why don't you talk about may fight on mlk day? And see how that goes. Stop acting like floyd owns those dates cause he doesn't. Like I said before you got to be a ****** motherfffff****er if you think a mexican can't fight on a Mexican holiday.

      FWIW -just one opinion.

      Derek (Toronto)
Who does the MGM Grand go with for May Cinco weekend, Mayweather/Haymon or Canelo/Oscar?

      Brian Campbell (3:08 PM)
I find it hard to believe that both a Cotto-Canelo and Floyd fight will end up truly going head-to-head on PPV on the same night. I believe someone will back down or switch ideas or move to regular TV or SOMETHING to avoid that. Just my two cents. But if it literally came down to this decision for the MGM between the two fights and they were literally forced to choose, I think they would choose Floyd. He's (quite literally) the house fighter and there appears to be a deep relationship there.

One issue though. Floyd has just 2 fights left (according to him) while Canelo has quite a few years ahead of him. Does the MGM really snub a future investment for a guy who's calling it quits after his next 2 fights? I'm curious to see which way they go if it does come down to this.

The MGM already lost Pacquiao due to thier mishandling of his last fight. Do they want to lose boxings other star as well?

MGM is the main fight arena in Vegas. Thomas and Mack SUCKS. Vegas is also still the boxing mecca. If Canelo fights in Vegas it will surely be in MGM.

I tried to make this point when we had this discussion before. Canelo doesn't generate anywhere near what Floyd does. 4 of the 5 largest gates in Vegas history-Floyd. I know NSB tries to make things equal but when you add the factor in Floyd fights are 2 of if the 2 biggest weekends for all businesses (especially at a time when tourism in Vegas is down) its a hard choice.

when did the MGM lose Manny? he's fighting in China because TR is doing business there and because the algieri fight is crap fight that wont sell well here.

Its my understanding that thier relationship is very rocky after Arum blasted them during a press conference for advertising the Floyd/Maidana fight during fight week of Pac/Bradley II.

Also Canelo can fight in Cali or Texas and still draw huge crowds.

it's not hard to predict the outcome of this cinco de mayo battle. given his dwindling ppv numbers, mayweather would have to give up those dates. i don't see oscar/canelo backing down, and they'll get them, hook, line, and sinker. hbo will be happy to play along.

and the thing is canelo don't have to make 1 million ppv to break even. he can opt to accept a low guarantee and take whatever he gets from the ppv upside.

so greedy tbe, who demands $32 million per fight will be facing a huge dilemma here, which, i think, he doesn't have to. if he's really a genuine ppv star these dates should not be much of a big deal. but we all know he's a fraud.

where else in Vegas is Manny going to fight?

we agree its going to be interesting how it all plays out. As of this post-I think MGM may lean toward Canelo.

Just don't underestimate the amount of revenue Floyd makes everyone in Vegas when he fights. His gate for the Maidana fights were larger than ODH v Manny gate.

No one would believe that if you told them prior to either fight.

It's funny you are a Pac fan. Because if Canelo-Cotto makes a PPV move for early next year, it will hurt Pacquaio's PPV numbers too. Unless Pacquaio fights before Canelo/Cotto, and Mayweather fights before Canelo/Cotto. If that happens, Canelo/Cotto is guaranteed to fail as a PPV. There's really only room for 2 PPV stars.

Also, Pacquaio also requires a HUGE purse. If Floyd is getting $32 million, HBO must be giving Pacquaio like $20 million. Whatever the number, it is also HUGE.
