Comments Thread For: Chavez Jr: I Never Turned Down Fights, Just Extensions

You guys can be pretty thick sometimes. In the article Jr says that Arum has not made an offer with out an extension. Obviously other then the GGG offer. Which Jr will not accept because its the same purse he made for the second fight against vera with out PPV upside.No-one's forcing Chavez jr to do jack though. Nobody can. He coulda fought according to the big money two fight deal, the lesser, but still significantly large payday without the extension, fight a smaller name fighter for less or even refuse to fight at all and get sued for non-fulfillment. Hell if he's desperate, he could even buy his contract out.. it's been done before.
I don't understand the argument, are you saying that promoters aren't allowed to use financial incentives to persuade fighters to do what they want?
****, and I thought I was the only hardcore socialist around here.
So yes in my OPINION by not offering Jr a legit fight with legit pay with out an extension, Arum is trying to sit Jr out till hes desperate or softens his stance which Arum hopes will lead to Jr excepting a contract extension, for me it is trying to force Jr to resign. If Arum was being fair he would have offered Jr a fair purse with out an extension to fight GGG, not the same purse he made to fight vera. The purse didn't have to be 7mil, but more then the Martinez and vera purse for sure with PPV and no extension would have been fair. 4-5 mill purse for a fight with GGG would have been more fair then 2 mil.Comment

Imagine you're far from an exemplary employee (but for some reason you bring in the customers - perhaps you're really good looking and the ladies keep coming in asking for advice on their plumbing) and you've decided to leave your job cos you don't really like it.Why should he be forced to sign an extension to get a fight? That is a terrible practice and people support that support of corruption are fools. Chavez should be able to fight his last fight and leave! Imagine working for a store, but them refusing to pay unless you agreed to commit to them for another two years?
Should your management be criticised if they offer you a pay rise to stay? Or even just ask you to work out your contract at normal rates? Your parallel is not really close anyway, but even within it's confines doesn't really make sense.
Chavez jr. can just work out his contract and leave if that's what he wants. He's just being offered many millions of $s to do otherwise. Guys got a rough deal I guess.Comment

But theres ppv upside. Canelo got a much smaller guarantee vs Angulo. Cotto got a much smaller guarantee vs Trout.
A 2 fight extension under those terms is great businessComment
