There's a big difference between going to the corner and knocking your opponent out while been attend it by his seconds and thrwing a combination a fraction of a second after the bell, is not like the bell rang and he got a cooffe brake and then hit mendez, by the way the only reason mendez couldn't protect himself was because he was out on his feet, my guess is that he will not rematch Barthelemy and will keep this controversy as an excuse, the fact of the matter is that he couldn't take Barthelemy punches and that will not change...Why does it matter what Barthelemy was thinking? Focused on the bell or not, he unarguably landed a KO punch after the bell sounded.
Protect yourself at all times is just a precautionary message to fighters. It doesn't mean that hitting someone after the bell has sounded is permissible. Should fighters also be obligated to protect themselves between rounds while they are on the stool? If an opponent walked up to a fighter in the corner and knocked him out, could we excuse it by saying he should've protected himself at all times?Comment

That's another thing. I keep seeing that the KO happened at 2:59 of the second round. Re-watching the KO, I noticed that Bart reeled off a five punch combination. The second punch landed as the first bell rang, and the KO punch landed on the second bell. The timing was such that it seems as if the bell was used as a sound effect. lolComment

Barthelemy impressed me last night, for the first time. His punches were sharp. He used to have a habit of slapping. The Rances that showed up last night was a beast. He earned his moniker: "Kid Blast."Comment

He was trying to protect himself ,his ass got knocked out with his hands still up.I don't find it egregious enough to overturn. The ref didn't step in, and it's reasonable to believe that a bloodthirsty Barthelemy was more focused on his combination than listening for the bell. I weigh these on a case by case basis, and this one falls under protect yourself at all times.Comment

Actually, that's true. Both fighters were still fighting at the bell, it was just Barthelemy throwing all the punches. If Mendez had been feeling good, he would've been throwing right back.Comment

Impressive performance by Barthelemy. He took the fight to Mendez and hurt him early.
The KO punches did come after the bell. Honestly, I think the bell sounded off late. It should've rung before they even engaged. There should be an immediate rematch. I think the outcome will be similar though.Comment
