Why does it matter what Barthelemy was thinking? Focused on the bell or not, he unarguably landed a KO punch after the bell sounded.
Protect yourself at all times is just a precautionary message to fighters. It doesn't mean that hitting someone after the bell has sounded is permissible. Should fighters also be obligated to protect themselves between rounds while they are on the stool? If an opponent walked up to a fighter in the corner and knocked him out, could we excuse it by saying he should've protected himself at all times?
