What's good too is he has almost what u can kinda call a fan pleasing style. He's willing to engage more . So all the haters can't use the boring excuse. Not sure who's promoting him but that may now be his biggest set back .


I will say that his celebration was a little over the top thou.... Usually Cuban boxers all a little more poise , like they're suppose to win. But whatever .. It's his first title..

Rances definitely isn't boring. He boxes, but he comes to fight. If he retains his title, he can't be avoided. The celebration was off the hinges. lol I was cool with it, though. It's got the be a great feeling. Only a couple of years ago, Rances was languishing in Cuba. Now he's a world champion!

Yeah man.. Hearing his story during the broadcast about not being able to fight on the Cuban team anymore, because his brother defected . And almost dying on the beach trying to come here . It made me want it for him so much more . I can't understand how people don't root for them to succeed after all they been through just to compete in a sport which all the cards are stacked against them ....

Richar Abril is the most confusing of all. He's smiling as he makes his way into the ring and frowns when he wins as if his victory wasn't as good as he expected.

There's a big difference between going to the corner and knocking your opponent out while been attend it by his seconds and thrwing a combination a fraction of a second after the bell, is not like the bell rang and he got a cooffe brake and then hit mendez, by the way the only reason mendez couldn't protect himself was because he was out on his feet, my guess is that he will not rematch Barthelemy and will keep this controversy as an excuse, the fact of the matter is that he couldn't take Barthelemy punches and that will not change...

In both cases the warning 'protect yourself at all times' can be applied. If people are going to say the result should stand just because fighters are given that warning, they should also note that the warning applies to ALL times. Saying that fighters should be allowed to KO their opponents with illegal blows is bad enough, but trying to justify it by saying fighters are always supposed to protect themselves is absurd and leads to other ridiculous conclusions.

Mendez was obviously in trouble, but that doesn't mean his opponent should be able to keep punching him after the bell has sounded and a minute of recovery time is in order. I suspect that Barthelemy would win a rematch, but fighters have come back from very shaky early moments to win/draw fights later on...
