Off topic, but I think Rigo would do way better with Showtime. They got Mares and Santa Cruz over there and they aren't scared to lose.
Yeah, he seems to have a pretty inflated ego for a fairly humble guy (if that makes any sense). He's very proud of his accomplishments and abilities, which makes him stubborn. It's hurting him.

From what I've heard, Showtime is willing to pick Guille up, but Mares and Santa Cruz are both with Golden Boy. I think the real move is for Rigo to go over to GBP, once his contract with Arum is up. That should be after his next fight.

I feel bad for the guy as he is the cream of the crop when it comes to boxing ability..Especially when other fighters who suck, get crazy exposure like Canelo or even Nonito who needs a bricks-for-brains brawler to look good against. I MAY be in the minority, but I love watching Rigo if anything just to see who or if somebody can touch his skills.

Its just time for Rigo and Arum to part ways. For whatever reason, Arum can't promote technical fighters successfully. He couldn't get Floyd over. Look at Floyd now. A move to GBP is the move for Rigo. Guys like Santa Cruz, Gonzolaz, Mares, and especially Gary Russell can make entertaining fights with Rigo. And the longer he keeps winning, the more "boredom" fans will be able to endure.

Then add a few promising fighters from Latin America, like Verdejo, to round out the card.

Given enough time to drum-up interest, a successful show can be put on.
If Rigo can't carry the card on his own, what's the point in going to Miami? They can put a great undercard anywhere in the world, what I'm interested to know is how much more fans can Rigo draw by himself if he's to fight in FL?

As Andre Ward pointed out during the telecast. You don't have to become a Floyd Mayweather type mega star to have a successful career. Everybody isn't gonna make 50m a fight. But he's definitely good enough to get consistant seven figure paydays if he's promoted properly and continues to beat the best.

As stated in other thread he was a star the whole way through. He wasn't a massive star but he's also the record holder for the top 2 fights grossing of all time at this point. GBP can't promote rigo or TR or anyone for that matter. Rigo has to promote himself and take a chance...the sooner people understand that the less threads of these we can have. Rigo is ducking offense more than Pavlik is ducking a DUI checkpoint.

Unfortunately, boxing events have been sold to a different crowd: The casuals. Casual fans, for the most part do not appreciate movement, footwork, defense, or the sense of tact and timing. They do not understand that what Mayweather, Rigo, and ward do in much more difficult to do and do well than what Margarito, Rios, and Kirkland do. Do you think that if Margarito could do what Rigo does, he’d fight with his face as his guard?

Another misconception, and I might be wrong is that people say “Well, casuals buy the fight because they are exciting.” Maybe, but I think that they “watch” they fight if they’re exciting when they’re free. There are few universal fighters. Most casuals are compelled to buy PPV when a compatriot fights. Rigo could fight like Barrera and Morales in all his fights and he still wouldn’t sell like them. If Jorge Arce was Cuban he’d sell about as much as Rigo.

I know Rigo could’ve been a little more aggressive against Adbeko. But even if he did what he did to Teon, or rico, or that Irish kid, Willie Casey; his next fight would be attended by the same crowd. Cuban fans are not like Mexican fans, or philipinos. Cuban fans do not commit, they do not support en masse. Just look at stadiums in Cuba, or any other sporting even in Miami (save perhaps the Miami heat, and that’s a different crowd). I remember a card I attended where Gamboa, Lara, and Garbey were fighting and there were about less than 400 people. This was in Miami! On a Friday afternoon! With free Parking! And $25 tickets! Unfortunately again, that is the situation for Cuban fighters, whether they fight like Willie Pep or like Duran.

He's old. He has 0 offense. He doesn't speak english. He has no persona. Most importantly he's cuban trying to make a name in America. So no he won't ever be a minor star let alone major.
