Rigo shouldn't headine any cards unless he is fighting someone with a big name-like Nonito-or if he is fighting a Kiko Martinez type that will keep punching.

He can make good money opening BAD and WCB cards. Yes, those spots are beneath his talent level but it is what it is.

The discussion has been raised on other threads. I would say anywhere between three and six thousand. It really depends on the overall card. I don't think Rigo can carry the card on his own. My approach would be to add someone like Gamboa and another Cuban fighter like the prospect, Santana. Then add a few promising fighters from Latin America, like Verdejo, to round out the card.

Given enough time to drum-up interest, a successful show can be put on.

I've heard it said that purists can appreciate Rigo's style of boxing. The problem is, there's not enough of these "purists" to make him a star. People aren't going to pay to watch Rigondeaux coast his way to cautious victories.

That Cuban guy Fernandez just won rookie of the year for the Marlins and no one cares....it seems that they only care about Lebron and the heat during playoffs....

trust me I was in Miami when Rigo fought Donaire....

            NO ONE CARES
I watched Fernandez since they called him up. The Marlins' station gave him a lot of coverage. How much that translated to actual interest, I don't know; but Jose was promoted like the phenom he is.

I was at Radio City (with BrickCityBoxing and Cubanborn87, among others) and, trust me, there were a few Cubans that made the trip up North.

But you're right, Cuban boxing needs better promotion in Miami. Hey, Rome wasn't built in a day. You can't give up on a potential market just like that. It'll take some innovation and effort, but I think we'll get there.

Why not? Whatever it takes. They can hand him and a couple of Heat guys a few free ringside tix. All those fights you see on TV feature some people that are there for free.

Sadly, Agbeko was supposed to "keep punching."

I think Miami just isn't a big sports city. I honestly think a Rigondeaux card would do better in Los Angeles. Put Rigo as the headliner, and throw some good Mexicans on the undercard. I like Rigo, he just thinks he's more important than he actually is.

Off topic, but I think Rigo would do way better with Showtime. They got Mares and Santa Cruz over there and they aren't scared to lose.
