Leonard got full credit for that win, and May would (should) get the same.
There's a huge segment of Floyd's "fanbase" (yes, even if you're buying his shows to see him lose you're still a fan) that wouldn't give him credit for beating both Klitschko brothers on the same night. Citing that Vitali has gotten old and ripe for the cherry pick. And that Wladimir has always had a weak chin. The groundwork is already being laid to discredit Sergio.

Maybe, but him having so many injuries plus his age suggests his body is breaking down. It happens to them all at some point. Well, except Hopkins apparently.

And I thought Sergio's reflexes looked terrible. Injuries are one thing, being slow to react where he never has been before is another.

That fight showed us Martinez isn't who he used to be. Mayweather-Martinez at one point would have been the best fight in the sport. It's not even close to that anymore, especially if Martinez moves down to 154 like he would almost certainly have to. We'd be talking about the oft-injured, 39 year old middleweight champion moving down to a weight he hasn't fought at in 4+ years by the time this fight could happen next year.

I don't consider that a fight I'm too interested in. Just because people once wanted to see Mayweather, or any boxer, once fight a guy, doesn't mean we always consider that fight to be huge when the evidence before us tells us the fight doesn't mean nearly as much anymore.
I'm still dreaming that this outstanding fighter (Martinez) would be able to came back big into the sport -- this requiring proper medical assistance in he U.S...

You say that like Sergio is the expected next Mayweather fight or something and people are making excuses knowing they will fight.

It's not discrediting, it's facts, before your eyes. The man is old, injured, and will only be older next year if he does come back from injuries. He'll probably get injured again.

Right. But with all the "evidence" you mentioned, the site will go ape **** if GGG beats Martinez. Double standard if you ask me.

Just so I make it clear, I don't want Golovkin and Mayweather fighting either.

I want Golovkin to clean out middleweight, and I want Mayweather to fight the Matthysse-Garcia winner next.

No it wouldn't. I'm assuming Golovkin would have a couple more big wins if he fights Martinez next year. By that point it would be the passing of the torch we all knew would happen.

fair points. I think sergio left alot in the ring against Chavez. He didn't get battered but he had to keep it up for 12 rounds and almost lost it in the end.

FWIW I think HBO thinks he is going to SHO and they are going to fight because Lampley really threw sergio under the bus IMO on the last fight game.

But Hitking makes really good points. If the floyd sergio fight is about 2 top 5 p4p fighters matching up and testing skills-well nothing has changed in that respect. But if it was about seeing floyd KTFO like manny or Pwill-well that doesn't look likely anymore so posters are kind of "on to the next one"-either matts or GGG. thats suspect.

So why is there so much demand for a Martinez-GGG fight?
