When you view boxers as celebrities it explains why people want certain fights. Let's stop pretending folks only want to see him fight pacquaio, martinez, golovkin, williams (prior to the accident in my case) so they can see him lose, people want to see him fight those guys because those are the most exciting names in a sport. Fans aren't going out of their way to watch one brilliant rapper battle a crappy one...same applies to the casual boxing public. So folks need to relax and start looking at things not only from a glass half full perspective. I loved seeing Jordan play the knicks because I knew it would be exciting. Same applies to boxing now. We want the hottest names in the sport vs the biggest names in the sport. Hell people want the Klitschko brothers to fight each other if that indicates anything. Floyd and Manny want tens of millions in purses this is what they have to live with.
Though, top fighters are both outstanding athletes AND celebrities... The best entertainment is founded on sheer talent sustained by hard professional work... Good marketing is also required, of course...

Taking the accomplishment route Martinez >>> Golovkin. But if you have a brain and are looking at current form and who really presents Mayweather the bigger challenge it should be utterly simple, Golovkin is a substantially bigger threat.
ya keep telling yourself that whatever makes you feel better about him being the best out there

"At least two of the three border on idiocy".

Way to insult your readers Lyle, that's some first class writing. Any other denigrations you'd like to throw at us? How about "People who question Floyd's choice of opponents are probably sex offenders".

GGG does not have the resume to justify the aura of mystique and indestructibility that some have ascribed to him. He's 31 years of age and his best opponent to date is one Matthew Macklin, a guy who went into survival mode as soon as he was tagged. Now don't get me wrong, I love GGG's potential, as he has the package to be an ATG, but why do people hold this guy in high regard even though he has yet to be tested by a truly formidable opponent? Isn't that the same reason people still seek to discredit Mayweather's legacy? Anyway, GGG should fight boxers in his own division -- the size differential between him and Floyd is just too big -- and then look to secure a potential PPV fight with Ward or even Chavez Jr.

When he was 22 of age, Golovkin won the Olympics at 165 (i.e. "middleweight" for amateurs) -- Therefore GGG is a "natural" middleweight AND/OR super middleweight...
On the other hand, Martinez acquired his belts in welterweight, light middleweight, and middleweight divisions.
Therefore, (if healthy) Martinez would be the right choice for a Mayweather fight...

Is Fitzsimmons a member of Mayweather's entourage or something?

I'm sick of hearing about Martinez-Mayweather. Martinez has done NOTHING to actually pressure the fight into happening. He doesn't want to prove he's the best by fighting Floyd, he just wants a paycheck.

Are people still calling Martinez a junior middleweight? The man's been at middleweight since 2009. He's a middleweight. If he could make 154 comfortably, he would have done so already. That he hasn't should tell you he knows he can't make it, and is just hoping Mayweather picks him for the money.

I din't "call" Martinez a light middleweight -- although Sergio is a small middleweight who could have made the light middleweight AGAIN if he was a younger and healthier fighter.

Alvarez has been on Mayweather's undercards for 2 years. They were clearly setting that fight up the whole time.

If Golovkin does the same thing that Martinez did, say Mayweather's name all the time and nothing else, then I won't care about that fight either. If he really wants to fight Mayweather that badly, he can move down and put some pressure on him.

I don't want Golovkin to do that though. I hope he stays at middleweight and gets a chance to put all those fighters' lights out.
