Calzaghe vs Ward: Who had the tougher competition?

Calzaghe was an up and comer. His opposition wasn't supposed to be that great.I think slightly passed prime is a slight understatement.
Most considered him to be declining as early as the Benn rematch.
He was certainly considered to be well beyond his prime for the Collins fights with lack luster performance after lack luster performance.
It was considered a test and step up for no other reason than his opposition at that particular time was just that awful.
Eubank was the kind of fighter that would often fight down or up to the level of his opponent. After the Benn fight, he put in a very good performance away from home against Rocchigiani but then after that he was poor against Ray Close and Dan Schommer but then great against Wharton.
He fought on terms with Collins before Calzaghe and then Thompson at Cruiserweight after.Comment

Elaborate on that. The Kessler that Joe fought and beat is far better than the one Ward beat.
Lacy was better than Abraham.
Near prime Eubank that Joe beat was far better than Froch.
Yeah I'm not seeing how Wards best wins are better than Joe's at 168.
Also 2006 Bika > 2010 Bika that Ward couldn't put a dent in.Comment

Why is that so amusing to you?
RJJ did have some bad losses about 3-4 years earlier but was coming off a great performance against the highly dangerous legend Tito Trinidad and had built a nice winning streak. Also RJJ had enough after the Calzaghe fight to finish off Lacy who was still world ranked. He was no where near as far gone as so many of the uneducated fans believe. RJJ had a lot left in the tank and Joe put on a dominant display.Comment

Roy was well past it. Come on now. Even Calzaghe acknowledged it. It was a cash out to end his career.Comment

Seriously?
He just came off one of his greatest performances beating the puerto rican legend Tito. Even at Tito's age no one was putting on that show against him, not even Hopkins did that. Then after the fight with Calzaghe next up was another great win over the still world rated, younger and much stronger Lacy.
If that was a shot RJJ then he was a great version of a shot RJJ.
I still say he was near prime.Comment

Are you trolling? Tito was even more shot than Roy as was Jeff Lacy who never got over the arse raping he received from Joe.Seriously?

Lacy had never been stopped before that fight and even at his very best against Joe he didn't get punished like he did against RJJ. Also Tito was pretty far from being shot considering his short retirement and only losses to ATG Hopkins and 154 ATG winky. RJJ beat Tito like neither of his other opponents did, shot fighters don't do that. RJJ was not at his best against Joe but was damn near approaching it.Comment

No he wasn't. You are either trolling or haven't seen Roy Jones at his best.Lacy had never been stopped before that fight and even at his very best against Joe he didn't get punished like he did against RJJ. First of all Trinidad was a career welterweight and he fought Jones at Light Heavyweight plus he hadn't had a fight in years. Hopkins dominated and KTFO a prime Tito so I don't see how you can think Jones was more impressive.
Jeff Lacy should have been stopped against Calzaghe. The guy was basically a **** victim after that fight.Comment
