I don't agree. Andre Ward has only been fighting on the big stage for 3 years, mostly against European opponents not well known in the US. Give him time.
It's been repeated multiple times but Mayweather didn't get popular by the way he acts, he got popular through fights with Arturo Gatti, Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton.
The idea that a fighter has to act in a brash, arrogant way to gain fans is wide of the mark. It's just a way to justify poor behavior.
Where are their marquee opponents? These guys didn't have an Oscar or Gatti to put their name in lights.
Sure Bradley fought Pacquiao but he lost and got a gift in a boring fight, that's not going to win him any fans but he is better known now than he was before.

I agree with you, but his undefeated record also captured the audience... the whole "can he be beaten" schtick majorly assisted in his drawing power... but yes, people do feel some way about him.
